Leeds accuse Watford of being salty as Luke Ayling, 28, scores in under 23 match

Leeds United accused Watford of being salty after 28 year old Luke Ayling scored in an under 23 match at Elland Road last night.

Ayling made his comeback in the second half after having an ankle injury, he provided an assist and even got himself on the scoresheet to make it 6-0.

As he scored, the Hornets social media manager wrote: “Luke Ayling, who has played more than 100 times for the first team, converts at the far post with his left foot.” Leeds hit back with a salty GIF.

It is essential to Marcelo Bielsa’s regime for players returning from injury and now that Ayling has been included, he is showing signs of a comeback to the first team lineup.

Barry Douglas and Gaetano Berardi also played in last night’s game along with Eddie Nketiah who found the net twice to make Watford even more miffed.

Pascal Struijk made it 1-0 with a header at the far post after 11 minutes. At this point fans already admitted it was like watching Leeds’ second team.

The 26th minute saw Nketiah score from the spot to double the lead before getting his side’s third goal just before half time.

Douglas, Berardi and Nketiah were all subbed off and Ayling came on with Leif Davis and Tyler Roberts at half time.

35 seconds into the second half and Leeds got a penalty, Roberts made it 4-0.

Robbie Gotts got a deserved goal after timing his run into the box to perfection. 5-0 at this point.

Bogusz then tried a shot from 20 yards out only for Watford’s keeper to parry it back out to Ayling who tapped it home to make it six.

As Watford complained of Leeds having a more experienced side in the 6-0 thrashing, fans took to mock the Hornets for being salty but also tried to prove them wrong with the average age of the squad played out – see what they had to say on the next page.
