League Two striker goes missing; manager confirms failed return from France trip

League Two striker Dimitri Sea goes missing as his manager Mark Cooper confirms that he failed to return from his trip to France.

In an extraordinary turn of events, the Barrow footballer, 20, got permission to return to his homeland last week.

But, he was supposed to be back in training with his teammates at the beginning of the week, instead there was a no show.

Speaking ahead of Saturday’s EFL trip to Carlisle, the Barrow manager confirmed Sea has failed to report back, leaving everyone puzzled.

Cooper said he would further deal with the matter at a later stage, with the squad currently preparing for their next game.

Cooper said: “Dimitri Sea’s gone missing.

“He was expected back from France on Monday, but we’ve not seen him.

“We don’t know where he is.

“He was supposed to be here on Monday and he didn’t turn up.”

Yet, in a bizarre added twist, Barrow – 15th in the League Two table – then put out a press release with the team news ahead of the Cumbria derby.

It said: “Dimitri Sea is still having treatment on a hamstring problem.”

Cooper will be looking to bag another three points against 23rd placed Carlisle.

And he is focusing his attention on that game – before then dealing with disciplining his AWOL attacker.

The gaffer added: “I’m not wasting any time on players who can’t help us at the minute.

“We’ll see when he decides to come back.”

Sea was born in Paris and came through the youth ranks at AC Boulogne-Billancourt before joining Aston Villa’s academy in 2017.

He was released after three years in the West Midlands and signed for Barrow after a successful trial period.

Sea failed to score last term, but has begun this season with two goals in seven appearances – including one in his only start of the campaign against Scunthorpe in the Carabao Cup.

Social media users gave their reaction as the League Two striker goes missing with his manager confirming a failed return from his trip to France…

@ross_broady: Lost at Sea

Mark Green: Damn then! What is happening? I hope all is well for our little Dimi.

Trevor Dickinson: Go easy on him, he’s only a kid and let’s face it he could be having major problems and just maybe he’s trying to get some help. Barrow AFC need to embrace this situation and help Dimi ithey must not track him down just to make an example of him. Being away from home is never easy, it can feel awful, I know, been their got the Tshirt. I for one wish Dimi well.

William Jenkins: Can see why he’s pissed many people off by not getting back in contact with the club, just feel its tad harsh to be as critical of him when his safety could be a factor to him not returning

Craig Porter: This doesn’t sound good, just hope he’s safe, that’s the main thing

Middleton Nick: If he’s not been in contact to explain then bye bye.

Chris Benoit: I don’t think we will Sea him again.

Ollie Arnold: That’s him gone then

Sarah Neasham: Hope he gets his life sorted out and he’s back so we can figure out what to actually do with him. Shame because barring the injury he was actually doing superbly

Daniel Farley: Please be alright, we all know how tough life can be right now

Simon Webster: What is he playing at?! You can’t simply fuck off and not say when you’re going to be back, Sea is still under contract with the club

Holkerbird: Could be he went home and has got homesick. Not playing and injured could have triggered depression. He’s only 20 and in a foreign country so who knows. However he can’t just disappear when under contract. He needs to get himself back.here and sort out what is wrong.

SKIPPER: Echo the last two posts. No surprise to see the usual knee jerk reaction without the facts.. A young lad in a foreign country for a few years who knows what problems he might be having re health family or whatever. Didn’t we have similar problems with Gomis and Diarra and they were older individuals. Of course he should have returned when he was supposed to or at least contacted the club but again we are not party to his reasons. Hope he gets this sorted because I believe he has the talent to progress preferably for us.
