In this article, we take a look at the latest promotions and relegations in English football with the season’s end nearing ever closer.
It was a very busy Saturday afternoon with a number of teams going up and down, many celebrating jubilantly and others shedding a tear or two.
Fulham couldn’t secure the title despite goal number 41 from Aleksandar Mitrovic against second place Bournemouth.
The Serbia international is now one goal off the post-war record for the second tier set by Guy Whittingham.
However Solanke scored a Cherries equaliser in the 98th minute to stop them from having the ‘C’ next to their name… for now at least.
Peterborough United were relegated from the Championship, joining Barnsley and Derby County in going down to League One.
The Posh knew that they would be relegated if they fail to better Reading’s result at Hull, something they couldn’t do.
Peterborough lost 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest whilst Hull beat Reading 2-0.

In League One, Wigan knew they would be promoted if they beat Plymouth, however they could only draw 1-1.
Luke Jephcott gave Plymouth the lead in the 63rd minute before Jack Whatmough got the leveller nearly 10 minutes later.
Doncaster are effectively relegated despite getting a 2-0 win over Burton, but it isn’t enough to keep them up with results going against them and Donny need to close a 25 goal difference on the last day of the season.
AFC Wimbledon are another team could have been relegated today, however they picked up a draw, though it isn’t all good news as Joe Garner getting an equaliser for opponents Fleetwood leaves the Dons on the brink of their first ever relegation.

In League Two, Forest Green needed just one point at Bristol Rovers to be promoted, and that they got, with a 0-0 draw.
Meanwhile it’s dismal scenes at Oldham Athletic, who were losing 2-1 at home to Salford City and that wasn’t helped with Stevenage winning 2-0 against Tranmere and Barrow getting a 1-0 win against Sutton United.
Angry Oldham fans suspended the game, running onto the pitch in protest towards their owners, some sat in the centre circle with stoppage already in play due to an injury.
Confusion reigned with the game said to be abandoned, however all the fans left the ground and by 6pm, an announcement was made that the game would restart from where they left off. The game finished 2-1 and Oldham were relegated.
The Latics have had to endure plenty of off-field problems this season including fan protests, holding up fake coffins, and throwing tennis balls.
Oldham unfortunately look set to make history becoming the first side ever to play in the Premier League, since its formation in 1992, and then be subsequently relegated into non league.
