Kyle Walker’s pre-match video goes viral for all the wrong reasons ahead of the 5-0 thrashing against Sporting Lisbon this week.
The Manchester City ace sent his teammates a motivational video message wearing the Champions League runners up medal, raising some questions among fans on social media.
Walker was’t able to fly out to Portugal with the rest of the squad as he was suspended after picking up a red card in the last Champions League group game against RB Leipzig.
Despite Kyle Walker’s absence, Pep Guardiola’s side were 5-0 up inside an hour with Bernando Silva, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling on the scoresheet.
Although the 31-year-old was not part of the squad, Walker couldn’t resist but do a pre-match team talk to motivate his teammates and encourage them to bring a positive result back to Manchester.
Walker said: “Hey guys hope you’re well. I just want to say first and foremost sorry I couldn’t be there tonight to be cheering you on. I’ll be watching from home.
“Make sure we get a good victory and a good position going into the second leg. I want to change this [medal] from a silver one to a gold one.
“I feel what we’re doing and achieving as a team, this will be the icing on the cake to end up in a final again and hopefully win a Champions League. All the best tonight lads and I’ll see you when you get back.”

After the 5-0 win, Walker posted a video to social media, saying: “I’m glad my pre-match team talk worked…well done boys!”
Another player who missed out, Jack Grealish, also showed his admiration for City’s performance, writing on Instagram: “Just unbelievable boys.”
However, the Twittersphere took advantage of mocking Walker as he was holding a Champions League Man of the Match award and the runners up medal around his neck as well as adorning an England cap.
