Kidderminster manager departs club following discussion with chairman

It has been confirmed that Mark Yates has departed Kidderminster Harriers after a discussion with the chairman at the weekend post the 2-1 defeat to Leamington.

The former Kiddy, Cheltenham, Crawley, Solihull and Macclesfield boss returned to the National League North side back in January on a contract running until the end of the season.

He started his role with Harriers superbly, picking up four wins and one draw in five matches, however the results started to become inconsistent and affect their chances of claiming a playoff place, which can still be done but unlikely with two games remaining and five points behind.

A statement released by Kidderminster said: “Harriers can confirm Jimmy O’Connor is to take charge of the team for the season’s remaining two matches.

“Chairman Colin Gordon met with Mark Yates on Sunday to discuss matters. At that time it was felt, as Mark would no longer be considered for the position of manager long-term, it would serve no benefit to either party to continue with the current arrangement.

“We wish Mark well for the future and thank him for his efforts over the last few months.

“O’Connor will be assisted by Russ Penn for the games against Southport and Guiselely, while the club continues the process of identifying the next manager.”

After learning of Mark Yates’ departure from Kidderminster at the weekend, fans took to social media to give their reaction, with many suggesting they weren’t surprised – find out what they had to say on the next page.
