Jonny scores wonder goal before being sent off in six goal thriller which sees Leeds beat Wolves

Jonny scores a wonder goal before being sent off in Saturday’s six goal thriller which sees Leeds United beat Wolves at Molineux.

Leeds was able to climb out of the Premier League drop zone after overcoming a Wolves fightback and winning an exciting game.

Javi Gracia’s team won 4-2, moving up four places from 19th place to 14th and are now two points ahead of the bottom three.

Jack Harrison side-footed Wilfried Gnonto’s cut-back past Wolves keeper Jose Sa, before Leeds doubled the advantage with Luke Ayling, who was completely unmarked by Wolves’ defence, beating Sa with an low header from point blank range.

Jonny’s second-half defending was more questionable, letting Rasmus Kristensen grab his side’s third.

However, after Illan Meslier came rushing out of his goal to make clearances, Jonny got the hosts back in front with a spectacular volleyed finish from around 40 yards out.

Matheus Cunha’s deflected effort set up a thrilling finale, though Wolves’ hopes for a late comeback were dashed when Jonny was given a straight red card after a reckless, studs-up challenge on Ayling with just under six minutes left.

Rodrigo netted deep into extra time, lifting the ball above the Sa for his 11th league goal.

In the 100th minute, Gracia told the Leeds bench to sit down and be quiet with the referee going back over in the Wolves technical area.

A red card was handed out to unused sub Matheus Nunes. Something was said to the assistant referee. He was being restrained as the final whistle blew.

Julen Lopetegui’s team stay 13th, but are only three points above the relegation zone.

They have played at least one more game than most of their opponents near the foot.

This is what fans said after Jonny scores a wonder goal before being sent off in the six goal thriller which sees Leeds beat Wolves…

@UNITE_d_LEEDS: 😂😂 I’ve never seen a team 😭 so much as you lot. My word manager reflects the team 😭😭😭Best part is you’ve got 2 players out for 3 games 😂😂

@chappers6419: I really can’t see us getting out of this tbh , this was massive today, and we get hammered, forget VAR we just aren’t consistent enough 🐺

@davidrcporter: Not many times a player scores from 40 yards and I would still give him 2/10. Jonny Otto with one of the most incomplete performances you will ever see from an alleged footballer. #wwfc #wolves

@JohnnyLUFC_: All the wolves fan’s complaining like Dawson shouldn’t of been sent off before half time 😂😂

@Wolfpackwwfc: VAR does work, it’s proven it works in other league’s in other country’s. The reason why it isn’t working in England is simple, its because the referee’s operating it just don’t have a clue what they are doing and it’s embarrasing! #var #wwfc #wolves @FA_PGMOL

@GoldNblackWolf: Just can’t be losing to Bournemouth and Leeds at home. Absolutely horrendous in both boxes today. I presume Neves got substituted because he got a bit of a knock? If not, that’s a terrible decision by Lopetegui. Killed the momentum. These refs want fucking off as well #wwfc

@MattallicaUK: Are #wwfc frail mentally? Often losing their heads and not being disciplined enough to recover after contentious decisions? One to debate. Lemina / Jonny frustrating as had moments of magic and madness Neves sub took away all organisation. Livid , stressed and need a beer

@DannyWright82: Everyone complaining about the referee but I’m not sure he put a foot wrong today. Easy to see why he made the decisions he did.

@richthewolf1: Ref had no control of the game throughout and decisions were poor. BUT!! It’s not refs who will see us relegated it’s our inability to finish chances and the scouting team for not identifying a striker for years!#wwfc

@Laura02395618: Awful decision making from start to finish from the refs !! officials !! and VAR !! Regardless of our defensive mistakes etc it’s a sham and corrupt to the core this league !! @Wolves u need to do something about this not just accept an apology after every game !! Gutted !! 🐺

@Pukkawolf: For me this defeat is the managers fault! He could have used all subs half time and change half the team! Semedo Johnny netto podence Gomez all no good! Lemina was treading water neves is the only player who will shoot at goal! #disappointed #disillusioned #wwfc

@Snakeskin92: Yes, we were terrible for at least 60 minutes today. Defending was diabolical. But the officiating is repulsive. It’s not incompetence, Wolves are a target. Incompetence would mean sporadic across the clubs, this is Wolves every week. #WWFC

@MrCrowther1905: Defensively Collins makes our defence a lot weaker. We missed Dawson a lot in that second half but he was close to being sent off along with many others as the game got feisty. Jonny had a nightmare game and that’s even with his goal from the half way line 😂 #WOLLEE #wwfc

@RA_04NKS: He subbed dawson and neves off to protect the yellows i assume, and its a mirror of what we are dealing with here, are you incapable of sitting them down and going lads, you realise your on the brink however this is your responsibility, what are they 6yr olds? #wwfc

@cal_wolvesfc: What a pathetic performance, we are going down without a fight. Wages should be docked
