John Motson in trouble for description of Millwall’s Tom Elliott against AFC Wimbledon

Commentator John Motson has got himself into trouble following Millwall’s FA Cup win over AFC Wimbledon at the weekend.

He was commentating on the game on radio station but has offended listeners with his description of Millwall’s Tom Elliott.

During the live broadcast, Motson was heard describing him as “big, black and brave”, which remained on the talkSPORT website.

The Daily Mail has reported that he has personally contacted Elliott to apologise for his remark.

The report adds that the radio station have ‘reprimanded 73-year-old Motson over the incident but that no further action will be taken against the legendary broadcaster’.

A spokesman for talkSPORT said on Monday night: “We reviewed a live commentary by John Motson and decided to remove it from replay.

“talkSPORT and all of its broadcasters take such matters very seriously and would never wish to offend.”

Prior to joining the radio scene, Motson spent 50 years with the BBC, in that time doing live commentary on 10 World Cup, 10 European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals as well as being part of the Match of the Day team. He then retired in March 2018
