Jamie Carragher responds to savage insult from Everton’s Richarlison on Twitter

Jamie Carragher responds to a savage insult from Everton’s Richarlison on Twitter following Thursdays Premier League match to seal survival.

The Brazilian forward has been one of Everton’s standout performers in recent weeks, scoring six goals and producing two assists in his last nine appearances for the Toffees.

His latest goal was arguably the biggest of his Everton career so far, netting the equaliser against Crystal Palace as Frank Lampard’s side came back from 2-0 down to then win 3-2.

Man of the match: Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin went on to get the priceless winning goal, sparking the first pitch invasion which meant Everton are no longer in danger of being relegated to the second tier this weekend.

Palace boss Patrick Vieira ended up being involved in an altercation with an Everton fan after being taunted while making his way across the pitch. See more on that HERE.

Hours after the full time whistle, in the early hours of Friday morning, Richarlison issued an eyebrow-raising tweet to Jamie Carragher.

The South American tweeted: “Wash your mouth before you talk about me and Everton and I don’t respect you.”

Journalist Peter Harvey wrote: “Bloody love football! Will Carra take it lying down…? 😂😂😂💩”

Carra then replied back after getting the near 2am tweet:I stay loyal to fellow Crosby neighbours!!”

On Friday around 9am, Carragher issued a tweet of his own on Richarlison, saying: “I actually quite like this, if Twitter was about when I was a player I’m sure I would’ve called pundits out quite a lot!!”

Richarlison presumably sent this tweet to the Sky Sports pundit after being criticised by Carra during Aprils Merseyside derby.

The Everton player was accused of faking an injury during the match, saying live on Sky Sports: “Honestly, get up, every week I watch him play like that! Get up, carry on.

“He’s been down three times already, [there’s] nothing wrong with him.”

Though, replays appeared to suggest that Carragher’s criticism was harsh.

Richarlison later posted a screenshot which showed he’d rolled his ankle when attempting to tackle Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara.

Everton fans, including ex-defender Alan Stubbs, weren’t happy with the commentary, with Stubbs tweeting: “Will have to turn this commentary off I think @Everton because it’s so biased!! Richarlison clearly goes over on his ankle and is accused of cheating!! Liverpool class my a***.”

After seeing a replay of the incident, Carragher later added: “Maybe looking at the challenge on Richarlison, maybe I was being a little bit harsh on him.

“Maybe he just goes over on his ankle. [But] he just goes down so much in the game, he’s gone down twice already in this game where you’re not quite sure he needed to.”

POST MATCH REACTION FROM MANAGERS:

“It’s really difficult, I just said that to the players,” Frank Lampard said afterwards. “What we’ve just seen, it’s Premier League safety, it’s not Champions League. But what it means to the club and circumstances they were given in. The character of this club, the fans, players, just got us through. The spirit of the club was immense.

“There are a lot of people who work so hard for that, the players, the board, the fans, my staff. It’s a huge night for Everton and now we want to take that forward.

“Relegation battles are tough and an experience in their own right, the support I’ve had from the owner, chairman, Denise and what the fans have brought in is hard to do.

“Everyone can see the heart and the soul of the team, that’s why we stayed up. When I arrived at the club there were cracks, now it’s time to restock and learn. There’s a reason why we’re here.”

Frank Lampard added: “If you’re honest you have to fake it, act a bit. Not show your feelings. You have to turn people and inspire them. Dele Alli came on and was amazing.

“My point was it’s not the tactical change, it’s the emotions and the character. Can you energise the crowd and score an early goal? Then it’s the energy, the players deserve immense credit.

“If we don’t get that first goal, it’s difficult to win. I expected Burnley to get something. That goal was crucial, once it went in you felt the players, and the night, there was something special there. The crowd reacted, we created a special night in Everton’s history.”

On the fans, Lampard said: “It was so important. We needed them tonight, at 2-0 it was easy to expect the worst. But they’ve been doing it for a long time, since the Chelsea game. After Burnley was difficult. Again, the atmosphere was another level, it was great to see them on the pitch.

“We don’t condone it but it was in such good faith. They want success and when they see a team giving it they react instantly. Those moments were priceless.”

Social media reacted as Jamie Carragher responds to a savage insult from Everton’s Richarlison on Twitter…

@Kaytea21: Tweeting at 2am? He’s definitely living rent free in your head though. Thought you’d be asleep at this time or even celebrating being 16th in the league.

@1969_lfc: You just escaped relegation and you’re talking as if you’re some great footballer whose just scored the winning goal in a champions league final. Have some respect yourself 🤣🤣

@MackayoSaka: Vieira flooring a fan, Richarlison firing back at pundits. The football people have had enough nonsense tonight and some people are learning important lessons. Good to see everyone is backing it.

@MightyBluesYT: YES!!!!!!!! MY FUCKING RICHY!!💙💙💙

@FutbolMuu: Carragher pipes up a lot. This was needed to humble him.

@bobbyisabitbob: Engage him in mortal combat

@ReeceJMT: You’ve bottled it Jamie

@NenyeChelsea: Now I need Pogba to tag Souness like Richarlison did to Carragher and put him in his place. Some of those pundits don’t deserve respect.

@RickyGodisgreat: Richarlison owns you Jamie, you’re so finished

@JF1878: Flapped it

@Oletrain: Jamie Carragher gets after Richarlison every week but goes blind when Salah Mane dive to get penalties every other game. Glad Richarlison called that clown out.

@GerrardTime: Nah fight back Jamie. We don’t like it.

@n_allenwriting: Whatever you think of Carragher, him saying that Richarlison spends – huge amount of on-the-pitch time faking injury is essentially fact. The player acting like this is some outrage is pretty funny.

@Lukedutchh: Can’t flap it surely carra straight into him

@xMcfc_oKx: Running away from a fight carra?

@bphillpotts: Fair play Jamie, If you dish it you have to take it.
