Jamie Carragher offered role on reality programme

Yes you read that headline right, former footballer turned pundit Jamie Carragher has been offered a role on one particular reality programme.

The ex-Liverpool defender claimed whilst on air that he has been approached by the hit BBC show to take part in their next series of one of their most popular shows.

It has been a few months since we saw Carra on our television screens popping the champagne live on Sky Sports, celebrating the Reds going up.

Since then he’s spoken about how he being asked if he was up for appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, with Carragher asking former England keeper David Seaman – who appeared on ITV’s Dancing On Ice – for advice on the Football Show.

Carra seemed keen on the idea, saying: “I’ll have a go with a few bevvies down me.”

He added: “We were a bit worried about the financial implications on the Premier League and I thought I was going to lose out on a bit of dough.

“So I took the opportunity to go on Strictly and nick a few quid.”

The show’s host Kelly Cates said: “Half the time I don’t know whether he is joking or not.

“Carra could be going on Strictly, I don’t know.”

Fans recently demanded that Sky should sack him for ‘breaking coronavirus guidelines’ to celebrate Liverpool’s title win in the city’s streets.

He has already spent time out of his role as a pundit after being caught on camera spitting at a passerby.

It was back in 2017 that he revealed he had been approached to go on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here… and fans were desperate for him to go on with Gary Neville.

A group of ex-players have previously appeared on the show, including Neil Ruddock, Jimmy Bullard, John Fashanu, Wayne Bridge and Kieron Dyer.

Carragher posted an email confirming the offer, which admitted that he would find it difficult with his hectic schedule.

It read: “Jay, I’m pretty sure this is going to be a no mate but didn’t want someone to say they had tried contacting you and I hadn’t told you.

“ITV have been in touch to see if you would consider going into “I’m a Celeb get me out of here” I’m pretty sure it would be impossible with your work schedule.

“Let me know and I’ll get back to them.”

Of course, he ended up not appearing on the hit ITV show, to focus on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

It was on Monday that famous faces are starting to reveal themselves as the newest participants of the latest series.

So far, those named are actress and presenter Caroline Quentin, radio DJ Clara Amfo, former NFL star and pundit Jason Bell, singer Max George, ex-Boxer Nicola Adams and Good Morning Britain presenter Ranvir Singh.

Those to be rumoured include Bill Bailey, Adam Woodyatt, Shyko Amos, Tamzin Outhwaite, Adil Ray, Martin Roberts, Jacqueline Jossa, Lorraine Kelly, Mark Feehily, Jennifer Metcalfe, Katie McGlynn, Maya Jama, Michelle Keegan, Zara Tindall, Jack P Shepherd, Miles Nazaire, Stacey Solomon, Radzi Chinyanganya, Jamie Laing, Will Bayley and many more.

Plenty of footballers gone onto the Strictly, the first to do so was Peter Schmeichel, being the first ex-pro to appear on the show back in 2006.

John Barnes made it one week further than the Manchester United keeper by being the eighth man out in the following series, but both fared better than Peter Shilton’s early exit.

Robbie Savage had a go at showing what he could do in series nine and waltzed his way to sixth – a finish that ended up being beaten by Arsenal and England Women star Alex Scott as she finished fifth-place last year.
