James Maddison hits back at Roy Keane by posting TikTok video after scoring against Man Utd in Tottenham’s win on Sunday evening.
The 28 year old responded to the Man Utd legend’s comments by posting a clip which included snippets of Keane’s earlier remarks where he doubted Maddison’s impact on Tottenham’s performance upon returning from injury.
Maddison’s celebration at the weekend notably involved a gesture of shushing, which many interpreted as aimed at Keane.

Maddison pounced after United keeper Andre Onana parried Lucas Bergvall’s shot, allowing him to complete an easy tap-in to score the only goal of the game.
He then did a talking and shushing gesture celebration, then following the game, without naming any individual critics, he told Sky Sports: “There was a little bit of outside noise this week.
“People will have their opinions, but I wanted to do my talking on the pitch. I hope there is a certain few that enjoyed me being the match-winner today.”
Roy Keane had said via on The Overlap podcast that Maddison “got relegated with Leicester and he’ll get relegated with Spurs”.
Keane added that Maddison was a “talented player”, but said those who thought his return would help Spurs break into the top six “were in cuckoo land”.
Keane added: “People say Maddison’s the man. When is he going to step up to the plate?”
Maddison had been out of action since he picked up a calf injury against Hoffenheim in the Europa League in January.
When asked about responding to criticism, he added: “You do see it and it is there. Especially when it’s a big profile name.
“Nobody is more critical of myself than me. To be fair to the gaffer, he always talks about blocking out the outside noise, but sometimes it’s difficult, you know. It is constantly in your face. Social media and WhatsApp, sending people’s stuff.”
James Maddison scored on his return and Guglielmo Vicario produced a string of saves to keep clean sheet after being out since November.
Tottenham put a stop to a seven-game winless run at home in the league as injury-hit Man Utd side suffer a third loss to Spurs this term.
Tottenham goalscorer James Maddison speaking to Sky Sports: “It’s always difficult being out injured. You miss one game or 10, you are always champing at the bit to get back. I went into the game today knowing I can be the difference.
“I’m really proud of the boys, obviously it has been an up and down season, we are not where we want to be in the league table. I’m really happy for the lads and for the fans, we’re sending them home happy.
“I’ve always been a goalscoring midfielder. That’s why Spurs brought me to the club. I’m there to be that creative outlet and score goals.
“There was a little bit of outside noise this week. People will have their opinions. Nobody is more critical of me than myself. The gaffer prefers when we are in our own bubble but it’s difficult with social media, you see this stuff.
“To be fair to the boys who have been fit all season, we don’t want to make excuses, but the last few months have been really difficult. The lads who have relentlessly been going every three days, it’s nice to be an injured player coming back to take the pressure off them.
“It’s about us being present now and leading like they did during the bad run.”
Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports: “It was important we won today.”
On the importance of the return of James Maddison and Guglielmo Vicario: “They’re quality players. We have had to do it pretty tough in the past two months. Great to get those guys back and the guys who came on and contributed.
“We can play better definitely, but when we got some boys up to speed and start growing into it.”
On the game: “I did think our press was better. We made it hard for United to get out and that certainly helped to get a grounding in the game. We looked sharp. Front third movements were missing a bit.
“We lacked a bit of fluency in the front third. We will improve and we need to, but it was a decent effort. They’re all keen to get out there but game rhythm comes with playing games.
“As much as you train, playing a game of football is different. Vicario and Mads handled it well. Was great to get some time into Brennan Johnson and Wilson Odobert. We are going to need them. We still feel we have a big back half of the year.”
Postecoglou, speaking to Sky Sports, about facing criticism: “Everyone likes an impeding car crash. I am sure we had a lot of people willing that scenario on. I know how hard these players have worked.
“Our training was better and I was confident that we would put in a good shift. The focus is still on trying to win games. In the background we are doing it our own way. We are looking into ways we can do things better, but were not going to be the only ones.
“There will be a few that come to my world in the next period and people will see it’s not just a reflection of people involved, but the circumstances you have been dealt with.
“We have had a few players who have not got injured at all.”
On there being light at the end of the tunnel: “Who knows? We feel, and I certainly feel there’s a massive opportunity in the back half of the year.”
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “It was the difference of the game, they scored and we didn’t. We had the opportunities. We had situations in transitions, trying to get a result, but in the end they scored and we didn’t.
“We want to recover the players, I think we can recover some players for the next game. We have to be together to finish the season and start over.”
On the young players on his bench: “It is the hardest competition in the world. I am trying to be careful with them. I felt the team was pushing for the goal and I felt I don’t want to change. But they will play.
“You try to read the game, understand what you see in training. The team were pushing for the goal and I didn’t feel the need to change.
“I am not worried. I understand our fans, what the media think about it. I hate to lose, that feeling is the worst.
“The rest I am not thinking about. I am here to help my players. I understand my situation, my job, I am confident on my work and I just want to win games.
“The place in the table is my worry, I am not worried about me.”
Fans reacted on James Maddison who hits back at Roy Keane by posting TikTok video after scoring against Man Utd…
@ConnerCorrick: 12th in table scoring a tap in against 16th in the table and doing ‘shhh’ celebrations is embarrassing. That’s the modern player for ya
@CechThatAss: Imagine doing all of this after scoring a tap in against a team thats 15th while your club is bottom half of the table. Most spurs player you’ll ever see
@ModernWrighty: Probably the most Spurs player to ever play for them
@avfc_jose: Shushing and goading a 7x prem winner whilst being a “big 6” club stuck in the bottom half fucking hell
@Brandonp1882: Sums the bloke up to be honest. Scores a tap in and thinks he’s the bollox again. Put a run of games together first and then worry about giving it the big one.
@BaileyVickerage: Quality this, love it Madders.
@Lee01Nicholas: 12th and trying to run the shithousery gimmick
@Flying_Scotty: Maddison really has silenced the critics taking spurs to 12th after helping defeat the worst United team in premier league history 😂
@Leeprentice3: He tapped in a rebound for his club to move up to 12th place 😂
@stevotom44: Getting a bit cringey now, fuck me. It was a comment on a podcast.
@Jack___16: Shit mentality. Keano who’s lead some of the best teams in English football to the heights of success vs a player point scoring over a goal no one will remember in an insignificant game. James Maddison fits spurs bottler.
@JohnBrewin_: A tap-in from five yards. Case closed.
@BoormanB: Geezer scored a tap in, then got hooked off first 🤣
@JackJdmccarthy: You’re not a serious football account if you think a 4 yard open goal tap in is a mic drop to a player of Roy Keane’s ilk 🤦🏼♂️ absolutely embarrassing
@CaseyJones1985: Will go missing for the next 10 games now. This proves nothing the CLART
@Peter_Mahoney_: Well done mate, you scored a tap in. Keane is still exactly spot on
@Kingrufaro14: I know this is why i am probably not one, but if i was an elite athlete and a millionaire, i would just stay off social media. At the end of the day, former football pundits are just failed coaches and their opinions and ideas are a big reason why they did not make it as managers
