James Maddison gets rather emotional during an interview recently about trying to get into the England squad with the World Cup set to begin.
Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate will reveal his squad for Qatar and reports claim he’s already decided on the players he’ll be picking.
Unlikely to be among those is Leicester City midfielder Jams Maddison, who is having a cracking season with the Foxes.
Maddison has so far scored six goals and registered four assists in 12 Premier League games this term, with no other English midfielder registering more goal contributions than Maddison since the start of last season.

The 25-year-old’s only appearance for the Three Lions came back in 2019 when he came on for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in a 7-0 win against Montenegro.
He assisted both goals in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Everton, which was his final chance to impress Southgate, to try and get back on his radar.
In an interview with Sky Sports, Maddison said he’d like to get back into the squad and called playing for his country ‘the pinnacle’.
“It’s a tough one to talk about,” Maddison admitted.
“I’ve got the mindset of working hard to try and get back in because playing for your country and representing England is obviously the pinnacle, you’ll have interviewed loads of the lads from the squad and stuff.
“Seeing the lads and the experiences they’ve had playing for their country, that’s what I want, what I’m greedy for, what I’m hungry for.
“I can only keep doing what I’m doing and try to catch the eye of the England manager by scoring and working hard. That’s stuff I have been doing and think I have been doing well. It’s up to him if he wants to pick me or not.”

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers believes the narrative surrounding James Maddison is counting against him when it comes to England recognition.
āThis is a game where people will create a narrative and spin stories around a certain player. That has been created with him,ā said the Foxes boss, who saw his side move out of the bottom three with a third win in four matches.
āHeās a young guy who has played in the lower leagues and has come into the highest level.
āHe might have a Louis Vuitton bag, but he loves football. He made some mistakes that he would admit as well.
āHeās had one cap, so heās already of a mindset and an anticipation like he has been when he hasnāt been in squads.
āWeāve spoken a lot about it, and if itās not to be for him, heāll have some time with his family and then heāll push even harder when we return.
āNaturally he would be disappointed. For James, I donāt have any doubt whatsoever that he will consistently play at that level.ā

āThis boy has been at this level for 18 months,ā he added. āFirstly without the ball, heās a player that has improved in that aspect, which every coach wants to see.
āThey want to see gifted players working, pressing. Thatās what the top level is about.
āIf youāre talking technical level, tactical idea and efficiency, heās right up there. Thereās absolutely no question.
āWeāre talking in this league, which is full of world-class superstars, he is a superstar. What a player.
āYouād pay to watch him train heās so good. Iām very lucky that I donāt have to pay to watch him play football in the biggest stadiums.ā
This is what fans said as James Maddison gets emotional during an interview about trying to get into the England squad…
@TopBinsTalk: He has to go
@AFC_Carys: There isnāt a single excuse that would suffice
@junead27: Has to be on the plane
@Oscar_Utd_: If Mount goes and Maddison doesn’t…
@AFC_Carys: Factually the most productive English player after Kane right now
@real_rusty: Maddison should go instead of Mount to be very honest but to make it easier for southgate he has Reece James, Walker and Chilwell injured so he can replace those three with two defenders and Madders cuz there is no need packing all the fullbacks in the league.
@CFC_REC: Literally nothing more he can do for Leicester, he needs to join a top 6 team and heās instantly in which is mad
@MK_1997som: One of the biggest England career robberies southgate will answer for his crimes
@MikeyH2K7: He should be in the squad and arguably starting on merit. But even more so, we need as many of these personalities in the squad as possible
@JStubbs91: Actually criminal if this man is not on the plane. For it to even be a question for Southgate is ridiculous š¤¢
@NateTheGM: Got to love Madders, hope he makes it
@AamilMaster: Get him on that plane
@meggaherne: I donāt know what more he needs to do to prove to Southgate that he deserves a call up. If he doesnāt then youāve got to start questioning Southgateās favouritism and terrible choices.
@___dp95: Criminal if he donāt go
@_henrywest: The perfect role model for any young footballer.
@Gwhitbread99: Criminal offence if Gareth doesnāt take him
@Original_Muzzy: Nothing worse when a manager picks his mates! Get this boy on the plane!
@dankitson2003: Starts for me but wonāt even get called up itās an absolute joke
