Jack Grealish hits back at fan’s criticism of his recent form and is defended by Gabby Agbonlahor

Jack Grealish hits back at a fan’s criticism of his recent form and is defended by Gabby Agbonlahor, who takes aim at Pep Guardiola.

The comment was made under a talkSPORT Instagram video, captioned “Gabby is not happy with how Guardiola has treated Jack Grealish 😫”.

It saw Gabby Agbonlahor discuss Grealish’s reported exclusion from Manchester City’s 35-man squad for the Club World Cup.

One fan felt Grealish’s expected snub was justified and wrote: “Dude, Jack is been bad lately and I’m not surprised Pep did that.”

This caught Grealish’s attention, replying: “Haha I’ve been bad lately? Scored three goals in my last three appearances over 45 mins but okie dokie love x.”

Grealish also commented: “What u want me to do, score a hatty in 20?”

Agbonlahor, a former teammate of Grealish’s at Aston Villa, also leapt to Jack’s defence and felt Guardiola’s actions towards the forward have been ‘personal’.

“Bringing on a young kid for his debut in an FA Cup final when you’re chasing a goal, when you’ve got someone who has had the career Jack’s had seemed a bit odd,” Agbonlahor said on talkSPORT Breakfast.

“That seemed like a bit personal to me.

“You know like a last little dig to get you out, to upset you, to want you to move, but we’ve seen this before from Pep.

“Pep can be ruthless at times if he feels that you’re not part of his future plans. He will get rid of you.”

He has struggled for regular game time over the last two seasons and started just seven league games in the 2024-25 season.

Grealish also was dropped for the club’s final match of the season, and after the 2-0 victory at Fulham, Guardiola said that Jack could leave Man City this summer.

“It was selection,” Pep explained. “Of course Jack has to play. He’s an unbelievable player that has to play football every three days.

“It didn’t happen this season and last season either. He needs to do it, and that’s with us, or another place. And that’s a question for Jack, his agent, and the club. If he stays it will be fine and he fought like he fought from day one to make a contribution, but not today.”

Put to Guardiola that he is unhappy with Grealish, the manager responded: “Who said I’m not happy with Jack? Rico (Lewis) was not selected, (James) McAtee was exceptional against Aston Villa and Wolves. Why not ask me about McAtee?

“It’s not personal. I have 24 players, I have to get rid of six players for the last game and five today because (Mateo) Kovacic got sent off.

“I’m the person who fought for Jack to come here, and the person who fought for him to stay here this season and the next season. I’m the one who said: ‘I want Jack Grealish’. What happens in the future is a job for (directors of football) Txiki (Begiristain), Hugo (Viana) and the agents.”

Jamie O’Hara meanwhile has since called Guardiola a ‘spoiled brat’.

“I’m a bit annoyed at Pep. I think he’s like a spoiled brat… he’s spent £100 million on Jack Grealish, right,” O’Hara said.

“Ruined him as a football player.

“And Jack would look at it and say, ‘Oh, he’s won, he won the treble that season’. But, you know, he hasn’t really done much there at that football club. And Pep now just wants to bin him. Just get rid of him.

“No, no, not for me. Not in the squad. No, thanks. See you later.

“Not playing him. Don’t really care about what he’s about. And see you later. He spent £100 million on him. £100 million.

“If that happened with Declan Rice at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta would get the sack, right? Pep gets away with it because he’s Pep.

“You’ve spent £100 million. £100 million you spent on Jack Grealish and you’re binning him.

“Like, completely, like, get something out of him. Get more out of him. Figure it out.

“If I’m the owner, I’d say, well, hold on, Pep. I get it, you’re a genius and tactics and all that, whatever.

“Well, how about the £100 million we spent on Jack Grealish and you just want to get rid of him, you know, you just want to bin him off?”

This is how Twitter users reacted as Jack Grealish hits back at a fan’s criticism of his recent form and is defended by Gabby Agbonlahor…

@MCFCcharleh: this is getting abit ugly now

@Imeh_steve: I understand but let’s be real..the duty of An attacker is to provide goals and assist… you don’t do it and you don’t deserve to be on 300k..simple and short…Rodri cannot and should not be having better attacking numbers than you from DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD!

@Aliafootball10: Cook them idolo 🩵 It’s so sad that people hate him, but as we won the treble everyone loved him… People need to understand that Jack is one of our key players and not a flop

@23liamlufc: My goat come to Leeds pal

@hkm279: When you’ve got constant abuse thrown at you, it gets to a point…

@MCFC_Antoine9: Never saw Sterling or Mahrez get the sort of pity party this cunt gets even though they were 100x the players here at City. Those two held more heat from Maine Road blues than “Grealo” has ever received

@ewan10i: Someone really needs to help him because scrolling through talksport Instagram videos when you’re in a rut as bad as he is rn is the stupidest thing you could do

@liamb0117: I have absolutely no doubt in my mind if he played for us he’d become one of the best players in the league again

@City__Mick: I love Jack and he’s nowhere near as bad as some City fans make out but there’s no consistency from him which isn’t helped with his constant niggles. It’s for the best from both sides.

@CTID326376: Get off socials, Jack. Not worth it 🩵

@796gh: Needs to get off socials and clear his head. Not to assume the mindset of a pro athlete but scrolling through Talksport comments slagging you off can’t be healthy

@Managing_City: Feel for him, however, everyone feels he could’ve done more in terms of output. He got too comfortable with the ‘I was not bought to score goals’ narrative.

@spence_ross1: Fair play to him for standing up for himself, had a rough time this season especially but a proper genuine and nice human being as well as being an elite footballer when fully fit and playing 👍🏻

@Omoseye3: The fans don’t defend Grealish enough he have to do it himself.. all this fan base do is bash him and not talk about his contributions..

@maaxifn: Every single time he’s played this season we all agree he’s incredible, but then something happens which means he loses fitness and gets benched and then people say he’s been awful 🤣

@KeslersznV2: Genuinely hasn’t had a bad game in 2025? I’d love to see what city fans think of that statement because I’m convinced he hasn’t had a bad game in the entire year #mcfc #AVFC

@calebumo: grealish talking about goals and assists will never fail to crack me up. only once in his career has he scored 10 goals in a season, all comps. twice for assists
