Isthmian League club secure new multi-millionaire owner

An Isthmian League club have revealed exciting news that they have managed to secure a new multi-millionaire owner this week.

East Thurrock United announce that the non league outfit has been bought by local businessman Alfie Best in a seven-figure deal.

The Rocks finished the 2019/20 season in 11th place, picking up 46 points from 30 games played, however the campaign was made null and void due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Their new entrepreneur, who owns Wyldecrest Parks, which is Europe’s biggest static home parks company with over 80 sites in the UK, has his headquarters based in Thurrock, and is a big supporter of the local area.

Now 50-year-old, Alfie, who features in the latest Sunday Times Rich List with a wealth of £340million, has major plans for the club, one stand-out includse a new purpose-built community football stadium.

“East Thurrock United is a fantastic club with a lot of potential, but what really excites me is the amazing community spirit it has and that’s what I want to build and expand on,” explained Mr. Best, who made a flying visit to the Corringham ground in his £3.6million helicopter at the weekend, and is pictured here with some of the youngsters from the club’s Future-Rocks group.

“There is a real enthusiasm from everyone involved in the club to achieve great things here and I want to lay the groundwork with a new stadium that could see us make progress on the field and move through the divisions.

“Obviously, reaching the Football League would be big challenge, but it’s a wonderful goal to have and aspire to.”

Mr. Best, who has purchased a 50 per cent share in the club and the freehold of the Rookery Hill ground, says the new look complex could also offer amenities for other sports in the area.

“A football club has so much more to offer than a game on a Saturday afternoon. It has the opportunity to be the lifeblood of the community,” said Mr. Best.

“It would be great to be able to build a new community stadium for the club. I am confident we will have the support of Thurrock Council who are a go-ahead and ambitious authority determined to provide the best amenities for their residents.

“It’s the reason I moved my staff and offices into the borough from neighboring Havering.

“It was a big decision to uproot in excess of 400 staff, but Havering is an authority that did not appear to want to support the aims of business in contrast to the forward-thinking of Lyn Carpenter, the chief executive of Thurrock Council, and her entire team, for whom I have the utmost respect.”

Aside from Wyldecrest Parks, the new owner has many other businesses including Barbados VIP Villas, Vaaroom Motorhome Hire, and Alfie Best Property Growth. He also owns the Sapey Golf & Country Club in Herefordshire.

Earlier this week, the Football Association confirmed that all four NLS Step 3 league constitutions will remain unchanged moving into the 2020-21 season. The teams East Thurrock will face are as follows:
