Ipswich fan who got in confrontation with Roy Keane reveals what started the row

An Ipswich Town fan who got in a confrontation with Roy Keane reveals what started the row following the game against Man Utd.

One of the Ipswich supporters seen in the videos claims to have been “offered out” by the Sky Sports pundit, who previously spent time as Ipswich manager, and had been on punditry duty for Sunday evening’s Premier League fixture.

After the 1-1 draw, Roy can be seen exchanging words with a group of Ipswich supporters, with Keane appearing to tell one man “Go in the car park and wait until the show’s over. I’ll wait for you in the car park. Wait in the car park.”

“Few home truths thrown at him he decided to bite very unprofessional I’m sure he had worse when he was playing.”

Ipswich supporter Neil Finbow has since taken to social media, and claims to have been one of the fans confronted by Keane.

He said via his Facebook account: “New claim to fame just been offered out into the carpark by Roy Keane after a few choice words even Jamie Redknapp had to come over to get him away just ya average Sunday evening out 😆

After being asked about what he said to Keane, Finbow said: “Yep did remind him he set us back 5 years and ruined our football club also mentioned he wasn’t fit to step foot anywhere near our ground. Oh and I mentioned about him walking out on a world cup and breaking Halaand’s leg and putting it in his auto biography I hate the bloke and that’s been boiling up since he got sacked all those years ago.”

Keane was Ipswich manager between 2009 and 2011, he won just 28 of his 81 matches in charge, losing the same number and drawing 25, and dropped as low as 21st in the Championship prior to his dismissal back in January 2011.

In a separate post, he shared a clip of the incident, with it captioned: “offering us all outside”.

“Apart from Keane being a k*** that was an enjoyable game against a so called “one of the biggest clubs in the world” proud of the boys in blue ITID,” he added.

Meanwhile, a witness said to the Daily Mail that the fan was angry with Keane for refusing to give his children an autograph and for being unpleasant when approached.

“The argument all stemmed from an issue with his children.

“The fan’s issue was about getting autographs back in the day when he was the manager here. The guy was basically saying Roy Keane ruled with fear.

“You could see him pointing to the car park because that is where the autographs were done, and that’s where he had the issue with Roy all those years ago. So, it makes sense they were pointing over there.”

As for Keane’s car park comment, the witness added: “What Roy said back could have been misconstrued.

“He might have wanted to talk in the car park as that’s where it all happened. It’s hard to tell. But yeah, he could have meant ‘I’ll talk to you in the car park,’ but it came across as if he was inviting him out [for a fight].”

Other fans from the Ipswich end allegedly aimed insults at him, with one man in the upper tier rushing across to shout: ‘F*** you Keane!’

Ruben Amorim was held by Ipswich in his first game in charge of Man Utd. Marcus Rashford netted after 81 seconds, VAR temporarily inactive during first half after fire alarm at Stockley Park, then Omari Hutchinson bends in first-half equaliser; whileAndre Onana also made brilliant save from Liam Delap’s effort.

Man Utd head coach Ruben Amorim told Sky Sports:

“My players were thinking too much in the game, you can feel it. Not just on the ball but where they are supposed to be. And that is hard. It’s just two days with the team so it’s really hard. We needed more physicality in the first half.

“It’s a tough match, we lost some balls without pressure. You have to control the ball and the tempo of the game. They didn’t do it but they really tried. They are really trying and they want this.

“They want this, the players want this, they don’t know how to get it that was my feeling.

“We will try to find a lot of things about the players, we will need a lot of time to work out these things.”

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna told Sky Sports:

“Conceding early is a blow but we were the dominant team in the first half.

“Second half, United had more control but we didn’t give up too many big chances. It was a competitive game we could have won but we take the point and move on to next week.

“You can see the growth in the team and when the game got difficult we were more mature. There is some good progress.

“We have to find ways to be competitive and sometimes we have to defend with the entire team, we did that in the second half. We are trying to be adaptable.”

There was plenty of reaction online as a Ipswich fan who got in confrontation with Roy Keane reveals what started the row…

@Stephen12380211: He’s showed more fight in this clip alone than the whole Utd squad have shown all season

@RickyThomasblog: Ipswich town season ticket holder, or Patrick Vieira. Keano doesn’t care.

@DewiHughes_: A fully grown man who’s quite clearly stayed behind to shout abuse at someone getting exactly what he deserves. Love it.

@HLTCO: We need to know if he waited for him in the car park.

@djtomog: Absolute legend takes no shit

@LesMuttons: State of that fucking muppet. And I am not talking about Roy Keane. #itfc

@RMcErlain: Absolutely love the bloke 😍😂

@BPMJosh: Genuinely might be my favourite personality in football ever

@lukeym20: Embarrassing from the town fan 2bf, Keane was a shit manager but he actually spoke really well about Ipswich today. Times moved on 🤦🏼‍♂️ #itfc

@JackTynan15: No fucking better man to do deal with saps

@ShaunMickeyTam: All for this. Mad as fuck that folk think they can scream abuse at a guy from behind a cordon and get no reaction. Fan should man up and meet Keane in the car park and repeat what he said there.

@BigEdBanthorp: Love Keane the pundit and loathe Keane the manager. If the best he has to offer from someone reminding him of his reign at Ipswich is ‘let’s meet in the car park’ then that says it all. He ultimately started the rot that led to us falling into league 1 by wasting £ etc

@Ryan_j_mcr: Good on Roy, some fans are quick enough to hand it out but they can’t take it back. Well done Keano

@NickWren95: Genuinely, football is full of a load of tits these days, but Roy Keane is hands down the best bloke left.

@fenian__army: Guys going to get into his car and Keane going to be in the back seat ready to strangle him

@Jarvalho111: I’m a Forest fan and loved Keane but this is embarrassing

@MiddyRed68: Grown man waiting years probably to have a go at Keane and get his 15 minutes of fame. Embarrassing.🤦🏼‍♂️

@MarkGordonMedia: I never thought I would say this but between the Stick to Football podcast and now this, I think I’m actually starting to like Roy Keane!

@ON1TN4S: Roy? Lashing out? Wow, that’s so unlike him.

@bslfc81: Another clown that thinks it’s ok to go to a game and give people abuse. These muppets should be nowhere near a football ground.

@JS121198: These muppets that think they can shout whatever they want at famous people and have no consequences are the worst, absolutely shit it

@aroundgroundsss: Roy Keane just offering a fan out and to meet in car park 🤣🤣 Never change Roy never change

@AdamJoseph____: If you want to talk like a proper hard man, be prepared for someone like Roy Keane to call you out on it. I don’t advocate for physical violence, but absolutely zero issue with standing up for yourself against cowards. A ticket is not a license to say whatever you want.

@mithITFC: How embarrassing from Keane. The bloke is a waking hypocrite. Likes to dish out criticism over attitude and work rate, when he turned his back on his own country because they didn’t have enough cones on a training ground for him. Very insecure man #itfc
