Ian Wright praised for quick-thinking as Laura Woods gives update after collapsing live on TV

Ian Wright has been praised for his quick-thinking reaction as Laura Woods gives an update after collapsing live on TV.

The much loved presenter took to social media after fainting live on air while doing the pre-match coverage of England Women vs Ghana Women. She was caught by pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante before the broadcast cut to an ad break.

After that, Katie Shanahan then took over as lead presenter, saying: “As you have probably noticed, we don’t have the wonderful Laura Woods because she’s just been taken ill. But she’s in very good hands, so I’m stepping in at late notice.

She also wished her “a speedy recovery” and added: “She’s doing OK and we all send her our love.”

Laura Woods has since gone onto her Instagram to address the situation and reassure her followers and fans, revealing that a virus was likely the reason as she apologised for causing any worry.

“Gosh, that was a bit weird,” she wrote. “Sorry to worry everyone, I’m OK. The wonderful paramedics at Saints have said it’s probably a virus, just need a bit of rest and hydration.

“I’m really embarrassed that happened on TV, but a big thank you to my colleagues at ITV who really looked after me tonight. And to Wrighty and Neets for catching me, and sorry again.”

Woods’ fiance Adam Collard also said via Twitter: “Laura is all ok and with the right people. Thank you for all of your kind messages.”

The international friendly saw Lucia Kendall score on her second England start within six minutes at St Mary’s Stadium, with Alessia Russo making it 2-0 with a penalty in stoppage time. Kendall, Aggie Beever-Jones and Lucy Bronze also saw their chances come back off the woodwork.
