Ian Holloway has held talks with League Two club to become their manager

Ian Holloway has held talks with League Two club Grimsby Town to become their new manager, according to reports.

He ended up missing out on the Bristol Rovers job, which he was a favourite for, but is said to be keen on taking over at the Mariners.

He is a former Bristol Rovers, QPR, Plymouth, Leicester , Blackpool, Crystal Palace and Millwall manager and also had a playing career between 1980 and 1999 with Bristol Rovers, Wimbledon, Brentford and QPR.

He was a popular choice with the Rovers supporters, but says he didn’t receive a call from the Gas board.

He also mentioned when linked with the League One side that he was in talks with another EFL club over a managerial position for a project he says, ‘interests and excites’ him.

Grimsby Live say that that indeed was Grimsby Town, the media outlet said: “He is excited with the board’s ‘project’ for the Mariners and cannot wait to get back into work.”

The only thing that could potentially stop Holloway being appointed is the financial issues such as salary, and investment for team building.

Grimsby Live understands Holloway held a meeting with Town chiefs around a week ago – and talks progressed positively with the 56-year-old encouraged by what he heard.

Grimsby’s geographical location or the club’s lowly League Two position would not be issues for Holloway.

Anthony Limbrick is currently interim manager at Blundell Park after Michael Jolley was sacked over poor form and THAT foul-mouthed rant.

It certainly would be some appointment for Grimsby Town is they can get Ian Holloway in at this level of football.

They currently sit 20th in the League Two table with 22 pints from 21 games and are five points ahead of the drop.

Fans took to give their shocked reaction upon hearing the news that he could be appointed as the club’s new manager – see what they said on the next page.
