‘I want an apology’ – John McGinn tweets Aston Villa teammate after what happened in training

‘I want an apology’ – John McGinn tweets to an Aston Villa teammate of his after what happened in training earlier this week.

The 26 year old Scotland international has jokingly tweeted that he was never nutmegged by Jacob Ramsey as the West Midlands outfit continue their pre-season preparations.

Villa released footage, which has had over 100,000 views since Tuesday night, of Ramsey cleverly flicking the ball between McGinn’s legs and it produced a loud celebration and laughs from claret and blues players.

After watching back the video evidence, the ball is deemed to have appeared to clip McGinn’s legs on the way through.

And the Scot immediately appealed that the nutmeg should never have counted or even be mocked by the club’s official social media account.

Tyrone Mings, who isn’t part of training yet because he is on his holiday having been part of the England set up during the Euros, sided with the youngster instead of McGinn.

While it’s pretty clear that McGinn was outsmarted and outdone by the Villa rising star, Ramsey isn’t yet a regular in the Villa team, but you can see he’s on course to, and at this rate the way he’s impressing, fans will be wanting to see him make a first team league debut at some point next season.

Villa have enough creative talent in their ranks such as Emiliano Buendia, Bertrand Traore, Jack Grealish and Anwar El Ghazi, to name a few.

But it’s not to say there isn’t a spot that could open up for Ramsey if he continues to impress this summer and at the start of the campaign.

Meanwhile, Villa boss Dean Smith will return to Bodymoor Heath this week after completing a period in isolation.

The head coach was absent from the club’s friendlies at Walsall and Stoke while isolating with his family but is expected back at the training ground in the early part of this week.

One of Smith’s first jobs will be to work out whether to issue Wesley with a club fine, after the striker was sent off for violent conduct during the second half of Saturday’s defeat at Stoke City.

The Brazilian had only been on the pitch for seven minutes when he then got in an altercation with Nick Powell, attempting to head-butt the Potters forward before then grabbing him round the throat and throwing a punch.

Wesley had only just returned from a 16-month injury lay-off in April, but will not face a ban from any competitive matches following the marching orders at the weekend.

Villa, who face Nottingham Forest in a behind closed doors friendly on Wednesday, are set to step up their search for another attacker after failing in their pursuit of Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe.
