Hull fans cheekily taunt Sheffield United as Bramall Lane empties during Tigers’ 3-0 win

Hull City fans took to cheekily taunt Sheffield United as the Bramall Lane empties during the Tigers’ 3-0 win on Friday night.

Matt Crooks scored after just 6 minutes, before the Blades had an equaliser controversially ruled out; Matty Jacob doubled Hull’s lead; then Harrison Burrows netted an own goal late on.

The result sees Hull move out of the relegation zone, sitting 18th with 29 points from 29 games played, before the rest of the Championship‘s weekend fixtures get underway, Sheffield United meanwhile miss out on going back to the top of the table, staying in 2nd with 58 points with 29 games played and 1 point behind leaders Leeds.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder told BBC Radio Sheffield:

“Just maybe a game too far for us a little bit. I wanted to get through this game, I felt we were still stretched a little bit, playing a left-back in the middle of the park.

“Obviously putting boys into the team as well on a first start, so it was a little bit disjointed.

“Poor goals from our point of view. The first one gives them a huge lift. Then you could see, all of a sudden they sit into a low block and it’s up to us to break them down.

“We couldn’t find that rhythm and that bit of quality. And then the second goal was another poor goal to give away. And the third goal, we’re chasing the game.

“It’s a disappointing night. There will be twists and turns right the way through. We’ve put ourselves in a really good position. We can’t rest on our laurels and not get over this.

“We have to get over this pretty quickly. The cavalry are coming, reinforcements are coming, boys are coming back from injury. We just have to accept we’ve been beaten.

“We’ve won plenty of games this season. I’m not going to beat the boys up for it. Other people can, they can beat me up, but I’m not going to.”

Chris Wilder, per Sky Sports:

“We lost a game of football, I’m not going to beat the players up. We’ve got 60 points. We’re disappointed tonight. We’ve made some poor decisions from a goals point of view.

On the disallowed goal:

“It was maybe a game-changer just after half-time. It felt tight at the time but they deserved their victory. They are a good group.”

Hull City boss Ruben Selles told BBC Radio Humberside:

“I feel really good because of the result but also because of the performance.

“It’s difficult to come and play and get points from here and I think we did a lot of good things today.

“I think the players fully believe in what we are doing and their application was excellent today.

“The early goal made it easier because then they had to open spaces. To start the game in that way gives you confidence.

“I hope we can build on this. Now it’s important to take the weekend to rest a little bit and then go again.

“I think the team has a way and a identity, we can win or lose matches but the way has to always be there. I’m proud of that.”

Selles, per Sky Sports: “The win is very big, the performance is good. We came here trying to put [in] a good performance, trying to put things together. We have been competitive in all my time here, and the boys today showed how good they are. I hope this is the standard for us then we can move forward from this performance.”

Hull City defender Sean McLoughlin speaking to Sky Sports: “It’s brilliant, credit to the lads.

“This is a tough place to come especially with the amount of games that we’ve had. So to come here and win 3-0 and get a clean sheet is brilliant – we couldn’t have asked for much more.”

Twitter users reacted while Hull fans cheekily taunt Sheffield United as Bramall Lane empties during the Tigers’ 3-0 win…

@JONEZY04413334: Just a bad performance. Bad result. Nothing more nothing less. Still right in there. Start of season I would have snapped your hand off to be where we are. Now it’s back to the grind. Re-tune… Re-focus and go again. Come through so many hurdles this season. This is another 1

@G_TheBlade: Don’t know what’s more embarrassing, hull fans singing you’re getting mauled by the tigers or us literally getting mauled by the tigers #sufc #hcafc

@James18209464: Never understand when managers talk about their players being too tired. You’ve lost 3-0 to a side who have played the same amount of games, involved in the same schedule 🤦‍♂️😂

@ben_jamin_jacob: Well said. Thought our fans were embarrassing tonight. Where’s the support for the lads that have us in second. Hate this entitled mentality. Poor game of football but a game too far for a stretched squad.

@ManekiBlades: My biggest issue with this Sheff Utd team, is I watch them grind out scrappy wins. Whereas Burnley, Leeds, and to an extent Sunderland, just outclass their opponents. Struggling to watch us tonight and think we’ll be in the top 2. #SUFC

@GodberMick: Poor night from us and the linesman and credit to hull.3 games in 6 days we would have took 6 points especially with injuries and players lack of game time. Also maybe a wake up call got to be at it every game but squad will be 100% better come derby!#twitterblades

@Jamesfletcher82: Wilder got to take a lot of blame for that.3 weeks into Jan & not replace Souttar, Arblaster or signed a right back. Burrows and Peck didn’t work Tuesday night what made him think tonight would work and then why not to try and change something like try Brooks there #twitterblades

@_joshchapman98: Points tally is obviously what matters, but I reckon I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve come away from a game a thought: “We were class today, what a performance.” Performance level isn’t sustainable and we’re being found out imo 🤷‍♂️ #sufc #twitterblades

@l16mjv: A lot of below par performances tonight, sloppy passes, poor control, no tempo as a result – quality lacking but desire lacking even more. Hull had the desire and matched it with quality

@hanky_1: Like headless chickens. No composure anywhere on the pitch and Hull defended brilliantly. Had about a million corners / long throws and decent positions but never looked a threat!

@Grant__Lunn: Let this be a wake up call Blades. Doesn’t matter who we play we can’t be complacent ⚔️🔴⚪️

@bladeshuffler: Such poor decision making from Wilder. Too many changes to starting 11. Not playing Brewster, setting up Cannon to fail. Too much expectation on BBD. Let’s hope this isn’t the start of the road to the playoffs. Hull manager totally out thought Wilder, set his team up brilliantly.
