Hull City and local police investigate the crowd trouble during the club’s FA Cup tie at home to Everton over the weekend.
The Tigers say they will ban those supporters found guilty of throwing objects onto the MKM Stadium playing surface on Saturday night.
Items including bottles, coins and even celery were thrown onto the playing surface during the second half after Ryan Longman got Hull an equaliser with an effort from 25-yards out, with referee Kevin Friend halting the match so that the pitch could be cleared.
Everton finished the tie winning 3-2 after extra time, to set up a fourth-round clash with Brentford at Goodison Park thanks to Andros Townsend’s striking hard.
It’s not the first time this season things have been thrown onto the pitch at Hull, and the club say they are working with Humberside Police to identify those believed to have been involved.
CLUB STATEMENT:
Hull City can confirm we are investigating a number of incidents where objects were thrown onto the field of play during Saturday’s FA Cup third round tie against Everton.
The club is working with SMC and Humberside Police to identify the perpetrators and issue those who are found guilty with banning orders.
The club reiterates its stance that such behaviour is not welcome at the MKM Stadium, and those taking part do not represent the club or its fanbase.
If any supporter has information which may help with the investigations, please contact info@wearehullcity.co.uk.
Meanwhile there are also reports that an Everton fan invaded the pitch with Hull supporters wanting those in the away end to be investigate also.
Hull City’s statement comes just weeks after it revealed an enhanced stewarding plan for the East Stand, which it says has seen a sharp rise in anti-social behaviour since fans returned to stadiums at the beginning of the season.
Bans have already been issued with further action expected to be taken by the police, with the club keen to avoid any potential sanctions from the Sports Grounds Safety Authority.
Twitter users reacted as Hull City and police investigate crowd trouble during the Everton FA Cup tie…
@TigersEarly: There was mass bottle throwing by visiting supporters in the middlesbrough & birmingham games this season, many of them ironically enough coming in broad daylight from just a few yards in front of the police control room in the North stand . Were these incidents investigated?
@JoPSmith25: Can we also investigate how away fans buying tickets in the home ends are simply allowed to walk freely into the away end! Home fans can’t even walk around their own stadium but yet away fans can do what they like. Not to mention the excessive stewarding in the east stand!
@connorhcafc: You got me so bad with the “Hull city can confirm”. DONT DO THAT TO ME. THATS SO MEAN. MY HEART DROPPED
@Garryjmac72: 🎵 we’re after strikers from everywhere, full backs from Rome, now we’re throwing celery, celery at home 🎵
@HcafcHarry: Investigating Everton fans lobbing coins also?
@1280sue: There were a few things wrong on Saturday, some of which the club should take responsibility for. But throwing objects cannot be defended.
@rhodz2403: Investigate the treatment of some of the fans in E2 this season. My partner was shoved by a Steward for no apparent reason on Saturday. So many younger Stewards think they are the bee’s knee’s over there. When in reality, they have no such authority over any of us.
@AAPR1997: Too right… anyone throwing shit on the pitch or at opposition fans is no supporter of ours
@RobinAuty: Why did the stewards walk away rather than deal with those responsible?
@MattyHC5: @Humberbeat hope you’re investigating away fans who come here also and manage to launch bottles at the home end as well as coins. Home fans have been victimised all season being recorded and treated like hooligans before we even get into the ground by stewards and coppers. All you seem to be arsed about is getting the away fans in and out of hull ASAP and allowing them to get away with all sorts. Just an observation having experienced embarrassing stewarding and policing. #hcafc
@JoeShakesby: Why don’t you do something useful and investigate the treatment of home fans by stewards at home games recently
@JohnAcko1985: After you arrest them can you please get them to explain what the Celery was all about?
@liamLwood: Humberside police should be accountable for this fucking arsehole recording city fans all game when it was the Everton fan lobbing flares and objects sort it out
@davidwheldrake: Ban the tossers involved, without punishing the rest of the fanbase. #hcafc
@MaxPalmer_Chem: The kids that threw the cider weren’t even old enough to buy it. The celery was just daft but the cider has to be part on the stadium staff. Morons that arent there normally, not football fans
@GeorgeBell0561: This makes my blood boil. Proper fans rock up week-in-week-out home and away and behave perfectly! We get one “BIG GAME” and all of a sudden there’s unruly behaviour! These idiots won’t be there at the next home game but the rest of us (and the Club) might suffer sanctions!
@hcafc_tom: Fully understand the need for this, just wish that away fans incidents were appropriately dealt with too (E.g. the firework vs Birmingham). All good saying there is no place for it, which is true, but tackle it all together not just the ones that have been highlighted on TV
@BrownyHull: The “Hull City can confirm” literally made me jump out my seat 🤣🙄 This is good and i hope they ban anyone who they identify. Nobody should be throwing anything, even celery (wierdos), onto the pitch. I hope they are investigating away fans too though!!! #hcafc
@Mattc1904: Make sure you find them and give them all banning orders. Moronic behaviour!
