Huddersfield fans vent frustration at players and manager after draw with Port Vale

Huddersfield fans vent their frustration at players and manager Liam Manning after the 0-0 draw with League One’s bottom side Port Vale.

The Terriers’ play-off hopefuls were dented in what was described by BBC Sport to be, a low-quality goalless draw that helped neither side.

Huddersfield did come close to scoring twice against Port Vale, Liam Gordon nearly turning the cross into his own net but recovered to clear it off the line and Josh Feeney’s header from Lasse Sorensen’s corner coming back off the crossbar.

The result sees Port Vale 13 points from safety while Huddersfield stay 6th despite a fourth straight away game without scoring. Stockport are 7th, on goal difference, but have two games in hand.

Huddersfield Town Head Coach Liam Manning commented:

“Tough game. Tough conditions. We spoke after Rotherham last week about bravery, intent, and purpose, and I thought we showed that in abundance today.

“In terms of trying to do the right things, trying to play forward, trying to run forward, and trying to get into the box, but I thought we created numerous opportunities, and lacked quality in the final bit.

“So, it’s a bit disappointing to not execute one of them in the end.

“It wasn’t for a lack of trying. When I look at the lads behaviours, in terms of their desire to run and compete, I thought they had a right go today.

“It did come down to quality, and we were chasing change by bringing on attacking players, trying to have a positive impact on the game, but it didn’t quite land to someone, or we didn’t quite execute that, which is the bits we have to be try be better at.”

Huddersfield Town midfielder Mickel Miller added:

“Disappointing — we obviously wanted to get the three points here. You’ve always got to look at the positives of it.

“We didn’t concede and got the clean sheet. We have just got to look forward, and we can’t dwell on the past. We have just got to move on to Tuesday.

“With the conditions here, and how hard the boys tried in the second half, I feel like on another day we definitely come away with three points — it’s just one of them days.

“We don’t want to use the pitch as an excuse. It was bad for them. It was bad for us. Premier League teams have come here and struggled, so we know it’s not an easy place to come to.”

Port Vale manager Jon Brady said: “I’ve got four centre-backs out, I’ve got eight out altogether, we’ve got players playing out of position.

“Then Taylor Magloire breaks his nose in the first 20 minutes and it’s all over his face, and he pulls himself off the floor, knowing we’ve got nothing else, blood streaming down his face, and he plays on.

“We’ve had one training session with that back line training what we were going to do, and we got into a rhythm second half on that pitch, which is a joke to play on, to be honest.

“So people have to take perspective here: these boys are giving everything. They’re fighting all the way and that’s got to be commended brilliantly.

“To take on a side like Huddersfield and push them second half. If we make a couple of different decisions here and there, maybe we get a goal. But we dominated them on the ball.

“We’ve played five games to their two over the last two weeks, so for us to be the stronger team towards the end of the game, I have to praise the boys, no matter how the next couple go.”

Here’s how social media users reacted as Huddersfield fans vent frustration at players and manager after the 0-0 draw with Port Vale…

@JohnCooper81: The Liam Manning effect.

@theheadfather: Not a fan of battering your own players like this but you can absolutely see why people are soooo fed up of the repeated lack of effort and performance level

@jgrads74: Manning Ball strikes again 🤔

@kieranb81: I’ll be honest as a Vale fan I don’t know what’s happened to you as I thought you were magnificent on Boxing Day (even if we were a disgrace). That sideways and backwards stuff was absolutely the wrong tactic on our pitch. Good luck to you though rest of season.

@Lukejrobb: It’s embarrassing that I can see people clapping them.

@Bradley_HTFC: Lets be honest @KevinNagleMLS & @CarmichaelDave reactions like this are why you’ve stopped unrestricted episodes. The football is shit & the management of the club from TOP to bottom is shite & fans have had enough. Fucking sort the managerial appointments & recruitment out !!!!!

@Gxem71: we warned you, huddersfield fans deserves everything your getting, he made us a lot worse players was so unfit, boring football

@NorwichPure: Oh Liam…

@GingerOgre: A shame it came to this as up until about 75 mins the team were well backed despite us not really having anything meaningful to shout about against bottom of the league. Today was the final straw for a lot. Hope @KevinNagleMLS was watching and fully appreciates the discontent now

@RWatership: “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” is starting to feel like the anthem of the Nagle years. Such a pathetic and unlikeable group of players and staff at the club these last few years. No heart and no passion at this club anymore (other than the fans of course) #htafc

@JonesLee1231977: Paid thousands and thousands weekly and put in less effort than my big toe . Says it all. Hard working fans pissed and rightly so. Utter disgrace. Play or piss off. Manage or resign. Fans deserve better. #htafc

@ThatTownFan: Won’t even come past the edge of the box. No leaders in that team. Our club is a joke. #htafc #htfc

@TerrierTogether: Thats quite a toxic responce from the travelling fans who have had enough of this bunch of players failing to deliver yet again! Not scored away since Jan! Shocking return from Manning and “The Group” #htafc
