After the resignation of Jose Mourinho, Tottenham’s job has already been rejected by three top coaches. Can Nuno Espirito Santo handle the Spurs job this season? Even in autumn, it’s still one of the biggest concerns for Spurs fans.

Is there life after Mourinho?

Tottenham fired Jose Mourinho without waiting for the end of the season. The official announcement of the resignation of the Portuguese sounded on April 19, right before the League Cup final. By that time, the Spurs were already tired of their coach: one of the players even said that he had “sucked out the entire culture of the club.”

It was then in the London offices that they decided to get rid of a coach as soon as possible. Tottenham President Daniel Levy’s vision was to inspire his team before the big clash against Manchester City. Spurs should have roused themselves and, as if freed from the tyranny of Mourinho, play their football.

The plan of the London boss, as we already know, did not work. Tottenham suffered another defeat: sad, mediocre, without a single chance of success. Ryan Mason, who was temporarily at the helm of the team, could not influence the situation. Among the fans, of course, immediately began the talk that Mourinho would still have done better, but what’s done is done.

Ryan Mason coached the club until the end of last season, and the management hoped to find a worthy candidate to replace him shortly. It turned out to be harder to solve this problem than Levy himself could have assumed.

Are we there yet?

The search for a new coach was not going well at Tottenham. The club has already been turned down by three specialists who headed the Spurs management’s list of candidates.

The club’s main goal has initially been to get Julian Nagelsmann, but Bayern Munich had already recruited the young specialist. The second candidate was Ajax coach Erik Ten Hag, and he led the operators’ ratings at bookmaker ratings as the most likely successor to Mourinho for a long time. The manager decided to stay at the Dutch club and extend the contract with Ajax until 2023.

For Levy and Tottenham, there is no room for error. The club needs a talented constructor who would carry the team to the ranks of the British giants. They might not survive another “title expert” like Mourinho.

New chapter

Nuno Espirito Santo seemingly became that signing. His Wolves was a brilliant team: under his management, the team won Championship and in 2018 and came back to PL after six years.

Tottenham with Nuno started with a bang this season: the team won three games in a row, including 1-0 against Manchester City. But then something went wrong, and the next three matches ended with defeats. Nuno Espirito Santo still tries to figure out how to get the team back on the winning track. This job seems complicated: Kane’s mind is already with Citizens, the defence is non-existent, and the first team is still not defined.

Daniel Levy hopes that the Portuguese manager will succeed. Otherwise, the brand new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will remain the only project that Spurs have brought to mind over the last quarter of a century.
