Historic Welsh club suspended from all football activity with immediate effect

Historic Welsh club Bangor City FC have been suspended from all football activity with immediate effect, leaving fans concerned.

The Cymru North side have been punished due to a dispute over unpaid wages, with a Football Association of Wales (FAW) ruling on the 29th of October stating that the club must pay outstanding salaries to staff within 31 days or face a suspension from playing activity.

With that deadline now passed, the FAW have said that the club has failed to comply with the order and the following statement has been issued.

A statement from the FAW on Tuesday afternoon said: “Bangor City FC have been suspended from all football-related activity following their non-compliance with a disciplinary order.

“The suspension relates to a number of disputes from personnel of Bangor City FC in accordance with FAW Rules 39.2.5 and 43.2 for the alleged non-payment of salaries.

“In accordance with FAW Rule 49, the Disciplinary Panel ordered Bangor City FC to pay the outstanding monies within 31 days as and from 29 October 2021. The deadline for these payments has passed, resulting in an automatic suspension from all football related activity until such time that the club complies with the order.

“A suspension from all football related activity prohibits the club from any involvement in football. This includes but is not limited to:

– Football matches played in a competition and/or at a ground under the jurisdiction of the FAW.

– Prohibits training activities connected to the club under the jurisdiction of the FAW.

– Conducting administrative duties connected to football or the club.”

The suspension means that Bangor City is not allowed to play any matches, training or performing any administrative duties.

The club is one of the most historic in North Wales, having won the Welsh Premier League three times and the Welsh Cup on eight occasions.

Many of Bangor’s supporters have decided to set up club Bangor 1876 being established by former members of Bangor City Supporters Association back in 2019.

A few weeks ago long standing supporter Chris O’ Neal admitted he made a ‘bad choice’ by sticking with the club.

Nearly all the club’s longstanding supporters having cut ties with the Welsh outfit and the future looks extremely bleak for them.

Twitter users historic Welsh club suspended from all football activity with immediate effect…

@PTFC_Trust: The plight of Bangor City should be a lesson learned to everyone. Unless our club becomes fan owned, where the fans make decisions and boards are elected, we will always be open to Chairman playing fantasy football with us.

@Fellowshipofth6: if it was an animal, it would have been put out of its misery by now on humane grounds.

@deansy_boy: In other words. Bangor City are fucked! Oh well! Up the @Bangor1876!

@RowlinsonGeoff: Awful what’s happened at Bangor City a North Wales football Club steeped in history and tradition, FAW need to step in now and stop this from happening again ☹️

@andyrob1971: Doesn’t look good for Bangor City, suspended from all football

@corbysback: Bangor City FC inform FAW that they “intend to pay to make payment as soon as possible” Believe this when I see it! #LetitGo

@BrynLaw: Looks like the end for a famous old club. There’s been a sense of inevitability about this outcome for many years. Good job ⁦@Bangor1876 spotted the danger and the city still has a club.

@nettle64: Very sad for the genuine bangor fans past and present

@KevWhite66: What a sad day for Welsh football if such an iconic club does disappear.

@AndrewDowling84: I feel for the true Bangor fans here. Not nice having their club ripped away from them. It’s a sad day for Welsh football. The owners have dealt a massive blow to the community

@johndexterjones: Not strictly true. @Bangor1876 is the heart and soul of the football community in Bangor. The fans saw this coming, which us why 1876 was formed. A ‘name’ is being dragged through the mud, yes, but the spirit of the ‘club’ is with its fans, the vast majority of whom support 1876.

@MartinMJ22: What a shame. Farrar Road was class back in the day.

@BenTheTim: A real shame. A proper club down the drain. The usual suspects have ruined another football club.

@DionRhys_: For everyone who still backs Bangor City and has something weird against Bangor 1876, I hope you enjoy watching fuck all from now one. Or can watch that managers donkey video if you’re bored 🤣 #1876
