Hednesford Town have been left angered as their game with Stratford Town gets called off just hours before kick off on Tuesday.
The Pitmen were due to host their Southern Premier League Central opponents, however, they were told the encounter had been postponed with the league’s permission yesterday afternoon.
Stratford Town had been in action 48 hours earlier in the FA Cup First Round, holding Shrewsbury Town at 1-1 up until the 54th minute before a floodgate of goals came in for the EFL side, with the minnows going down 5-1 at home.
The midweek game with Hednesford had been due to be played at Stratford but had been switched due to their FA Cup exertions.
Hednesford refused to comment on the reasons given to them for the postponement but said in a statement: “We as a club have done everything we can to accommodate the game, having been given a number of reasons to postpone the game.
“Whilst the League had agreed and instructed that the game would be reversed and played at Keys Park, we have just been informed that this has now been changed again, so the game is off.
“We do wish to state at this stage that at no point have Hednesford Town been consulted or agreed to this decision.”
A quote coming from the supporters forum which the club owners have a habit of posting on, one of them posted: “Steam…….. Im raging!!!!!!!
“Lets just say im trying to find diplomatic words to say how we have been treated differently to others. or maybe im looking for the right platform? (national news would be great i think). I need to calm down first.”
On the ‘Non League Matters’ forum, user Ashtree RockBee says: “Looking on Twitter, it appears Stratford Town requested the game to be called off at short notice.
“One wag suggested some of the team was probably not match fit (i.e. recovering from hangovers) after a few beers following their FA Cup tie on Sunday.”
With Hednesford left angered as game with Stratford called off just hours before kick off, fans gave their reaction on it all as the statements came out…
@shaunpeach2: Apparently the Stratford lads are knackered after the shrewsbury game.
@four2tour: Wow! 🤦🏼♂️
@nonleaguedave66: Oh dear, 1 or 2 ales must of been sank on Sunday at a guess 🍺🍺🤮🤮
@noboydy73: U need to change your #dauntless to #excuses
@TonyDunning1: Tin-pot springs to mind. The league owes us all an explanation. By saying nothing they create a void that will be filled by speculation. The fans deserve much, much better
@gue5ty84: Small club Stratford! Tinpot!
@GPB56: It stinks. But well-worded statement!
@VikkiJayne80: Gutted.
@Hallam999: Forfeit the points
@Stephen81674025: Why have Stratford asked for the game to be postponed tonight?? EMBARRASSING
Trevor Edwards: Absolutely amazing . The league should be ashamed at this. 😡
Kevin FP: Just seen this – no thought for the fans as usual.
Russell Brown: & the game on Sat is off. The league should really be trying hard to get games on before the winter months come.
Keith Harley: Congratulations to Hitchin, Leiston, Stourbridge and Nuneaton who all managed to play this week 48 hrs after their last games, unlike some clubs I could mention.
Ade Dando: And people wonder why leagues get called tinpot! Don’t worry about supporters and staff who take time off their work for games, can only apologise to the HTFC players, supporters and staff for the leagues decision here. There is more to it but whilst we as a club consider our full response I will not say too much
Richard Guest: Jokers!
Adam Hill: It sounds like the League should compensate the club for messing then around.
Stephen Cooper: The league are a Joke & someone from Stratford has been Crying the big babies
Chris Gillion: Sooner we get out of this shit league the better
Steven Johnstone: Send them the Bill for any costs the Club have incurred. Clowns………….UTP.
Stuart Scott: This sounds very dodgy 🤔
Duncan Hodgkins: Southern League should have called game off as soon as Stratford cup game was moved to Sunday. To ask non league players who are part time and have jobs, to play 2 games in 3 days is disgraceful. Any team seeking to take advantage of the obvious fatigue the opposition would have had, had the game gone ahead need to have a long hard look in the mirror
Gray Schofield: Maybe Stratford had run out of petrol again like when they should have come to Alvechurch 😂
Keith Harley: The big point here is that it was cancelled less than SIX hours before kick off and that is disgraceful, league setting a dangerous precedent here. Hednesford didn’t ask for a postponement so it must have been Stratford. The big question is WHY?
Soss Hughes: Not very professional by Stratford at all , hope they get charged with expenses
Stephen Cooper: Crying to the league to get it called off tonight, Embarrassing & very unprofessional at the same time UTP
