Heated scenes overshadows non league derby with manager sent off for shoving player over

Heated scenes overshadows a non league derby at Billericay Town with the Aveley manager sent off for shoving a player over in injury time.

Following on from a 4-3 defeat at Cray Wanderers last weekend, Billericay got back to winning ways, scoring two second half goals to beat their opposition Aveley – who drop out of the top five on goal difference as a result.

The first goal came six minutes into the second half, with Matt Price getting his head on a cross from Brad Stevenson, and even though the Millers tried hard to get an equaliser, one moment seeing a goal line clearance and had a penalty denied by an offside flag, they then saw substitute Manny Ogunrinde sent off on the verge of full time. Eze Ebuzoeme immediately extended the hosts’ lead, adding a second as can be seen in the highlights below…

On the 93rd minute, boss Danny Scopes was sent off from the Aveley bench for the shove on Imran as he tried to take a throw in, which can be seen in the highlights, albeit blurry but enough to see the offence.

Billericay’s Lawrie Wilson said post-match: “Very happy, we’ve got clean sheet and we’ve won, it was definitely what was needed in the camp, it’s been been a tough couple of weeks result-wise and I think that it shows a good bit of character from the get from the guys to to play against a very good you know Aveley team that are in form that are up towards the top of the table um so to for them to come here tonight um and to get to a new win is a very very good performance from everyone.

Interviewer: Yeah we’ve been on a poor run so there’s a wind like tonight a step in the right direction hopefully?

Lawrie: um went through some of the goals on Saturday looked at where we made mistakes and stuff and I think there’s a lot of ownership from the players and I feel like they’re growing, I feel like they’re growing as a team and I think you will look at performance tonight if you were here you managed to watch it you’ll see a team that’s growing together that wants to win together that wants to be a part of each other so I’m hoping that they can take some good positives from this game and move forward into into Monday’s game

Interviewer: Yeah deserve a clean sheet tonight, was that a professional defensive performance for you?

Lawrie: Listen it was tough for the for the back four I think for everyone tonight you know the the style of play um we knew it was coming up against um with Aveley and I think that it takes a real solid concentration of 90 minutes from from everyone across the team but especially in the back four um and the goalkeeper and I give credit to them all to be honest with you because it was it was tough tonight but to come away with a clean sheet and two goals and I’d love to give congratulations to Eze because it’s been a it’s been a long time coming so well done to him as well for getting on the score sheet

This is what fans said as heated scenes overshadows non league derby with the manager sent off for shoving a player over…

@StephenJohnDav6: Shameful decisions tonight have robbed Aveley FC of the rssult they deserved..Officials sending players off for the wrong decisions…Manager sent off for protecting his own players..and opposing players feigning injury to get players sent off SHAMEFUL..

@StephenJohnDav6: Morning Millers… still seething from last night after the injustice at New Lodge library… outstanding away support as usual… seige mentality gonna be needed from now on… lets stick together for the team.. big games coming up… lets push on boys and girls 💙 COYM 💙

@StephenJohnDav6: Get a load of the edited highlights from last nights cheat fest..blurred picture of our manager supposedly doing wrong and have a look at the fumbler in goal for Riccay..never a foul…PROVEN..

@MickLoweBTFC: Don’t know what game you were watching mate, blatant sending off for late challenge on the keeper. Billericay deserved the win, played the better football unlike Aveley who just hoofed it long all game

@HEvzWhu: Harrison waded in, he didn’t give a fuck

@StephenJohnDav6: Amazing confirmation of the incompetence of the referee and the blurred replay of the player throwing himself to the floor.. and what about the clumsy keeper who dropped the ball… we was robbed..

@BenMapp02: Never seen a member of coaching staff physically shove an opposition player over before. Spent the whole game trying to buy the ref and ended up with 3 red cards and 0 points. Cheers lads!

@SharonCampen: 3 red cards?

@BenMapp02: 2 for the bench and one for the #14

@SharonCampen: I have it on good authority only one was sent off from the bench

@BenMapp02: Fair enough I was by the tunnel and Scopes was with another coach as he went down it that was all. Still doesn’t condone the behaviour of any of your players or staff in those last 10 minutes. Horrible horrible stuff.

@SharonCampen: And ur goalkeeper was rolling round in agony until he got Manny sent off and then a miracle happened he was completely cured and if u were by tunnel how did u see what happened as it happened the other end I was behind goal so don’t see how it was possible for u to see the incident

@BenMapp02: I saw your #14 go in incredibly late on our keeper very clearly and get a deserved 2nd yellow, I also saw your manager shove over one of our players, your full back shove our left back into the barrier, and see our 2 goals fly in and the celebrations at the end 😘

@gingergannon: 😂 players being shoved every time the ball is in the air players shove each other is that a sending off.The keeper dropped the ball faked injury to cover mistake gets the player sent off embarrassing
