Hannibal Mejbri winds up Leeds fans while celebrating towards Burnley supporters

Hannibal Mejbri winds up Leeds fans while celebrating towards Burnley supporters with the Clarets winning 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

The former Man Utd player was seen “playing to the crowd” as he was subbed off in the 73rd minute of the much anticipated Championship fixture.

He came off at the side of the pitch and made his way round, going past the Leeds fans behind the goal and walked on over with the away end opposite him, to which he raises his hands and starts applauding.

Luca Koleosho’s first-half goal sealed all three points for Scott Parker’s side, with Burnley and their supporters in a very happy mood.

Leeds’ Daniel Farke to Sky Sports: “It’s the most frustrating thing in football when you go back to the dressing room and you can’t explain how you didn’t win this game.

“If I’m honest, after the international break I didn’t expect us to be as dominant as we were today.

“I’m really happy with our dominance and how we started the game but, being self-critical, in the decisive moments we weren’t effective enough.

“We should have scored in the first two minutes and we should have had a penalty as well.

“Credit to Burnley – although they had an 85-yard sprint, it was a really good finish into the bottom corner.

“We had the better and easier chances but we didn’t take them and this is where we have to be self-critical.

“It was also disappointing to concede out of such a situation but to dominate a good side like Burnley, I was pleased with the way we played.

“But obviously we’re not happy with our effectiveness and this is why we lost.”

Burnley’s Scott Parker to Sky Sports: “It’s a massive three points for us, especially at such a tough place to come and where we are in the stages of our development as well.

“The foundation that got us the result was everything we stand for as a team – grit, determination and battling spirit to a man.

“We showed every bit of that, which was the reason we got the three points, and it was a brilliant finish from Luca.

“Not many players can run 60 or 70 yards up the pitch at full pace with the calmness Luca showed to execute the finish.

“I’m delighted for him and thought he was brilliant in his moments today.”

To the club’s media: “It’s a massive three points for us. It’s obviously a tough place to come, certainly for where we are and the stages of our development as well. It’s a very, very big three points.

“The foundations that got us the three points today was everything we need to stand for as a team: grit, determination, battling spirit to a man. We showed every bit of that and that’s ultimately why we got the three points.”

On the game overall, Parker added: “First-half I thought we started pretty well. Obviously they have a massive chance early doors from a turnover and we’re fortunate enough that the boy misses.

“We then nudge our way into the game and produce a couple of half chances. Joe Worrall from a set-play and a Hannibal header. We had little bits that I liked.

“It’s fair to say during the back end of the first-half they caused us some problems. We needed to fix that at half-time, certainly down the left side, because there were some real overloads on that side of the pitch. We fixed that though and the boys executed the plan perfectly in the second-half.”

On Koleosho’s winning strike, Parker said: “It’s a brilliant finish. Not many can go and run 60 or 70 yards up the pitch at full pace and have the calmness to execute the finish like he did.

“I was delighted for him, I thought he was brilliant in his moments. I’m expecting him to make a massive impact (in this league).

“This is a top player. He needs refining for sure and there’s a lot of work to be done. But he’s still a young boy, he only really had half a season last year and you can see elements to his game.

“He’s the last on the training field at times, always wanting to do extra. He’s got certain attributes and qualities, that we’ve seen against Leeds, where he was deadly.

“He will be massive for us this year, he will be a real threat for us. We will keep working with him and that will help as well.”
