Hamza Choudhury arrested by police after being ‘caught drink driving and refused breathalyser’

Leicester City player Hamza Choudhury has arrested by police after being ‘caught drink driving and refused to take a breathalyser’.

The 26 year old was charged with drink driving having been pulled over by police and arrested in the early hours of Friday morning when out in Nottingham.

The arrest came at the scene after he refused to take a breathalyser test, before being taken into custody and since learned he was over the alcohol limit, driving without due care and attention, and failing to co-operate with a preliminary test.

The £50,000-a-week footballer, who played in his side’s 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich Town on Monday night, is currently out on bail and due to appear in court on the 23rd of February 2024.

Choudhury currently lives in Rushcliffe, Nottingham, and reportedly earns £50,000 a week, having made 68 Premier League appearances and was part of the FA Cup winning team with Leicester City before the team suffered relegation to the Championship last summer.

He has a car collection, of which he added to back in 2022, buying a Bentley Bentayga worth £170,000 and a £80,000 Range Rover in one day.

A Nottingham Police spokesperson said: ‘Officers pulled over a vehicle in Loughborough Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, around 1.45am on Friday 19 January 2024.

‘A man was arrested on suspicion of refusing to provide a specimen of breath.

‘Hamza Choudhury, aged 26, of Rushcliffe, Nottinghamshire, has since been charged with driving while over the alcohol limit, driving without due care and attention, and failing to co-operate with a preliminary test

‘He was released on unconditional bail and is next due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 23 February 2024.’

A source told The Sun: “He was driving very early in the morning and was pulled over by officers quite close to his home.

“Because Leicester didn’t have a game the next day, he felt he could be out that late.

“He is supposed to be a role model in the community and was seen as a future club captain as he grew up and matured.”

Leicester City and Hamza Choudhury’s agent declined to comment when approached by Metro and The Sun.

Hamza Choudhury, a married father-of-three, recently spoke of his devout Muslim faith.

Just weeks after Hamas attacked Israeli civilians last October, Choudhury came under criticism slammed for a post in which he quoted the slogan: “From the river to the sea.”

This phrase is something that is interpreted as calling for the destruction of the Israeli state.

Another controversial moment in 2021 saw Choudhury slammed for attending a Covid lockdown house party with fellow teammates such as James Maddison, Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes.

A year prior to that, he had been left out of the squad for not turning up to a training session after a night out with fellow academy graduate Ben Chilwell.

In 2019, he received a fine of around £5,000 by the Football Association and was made to attend a training course following historical offensive posts on social media were found.

Choudhury posted a series of tweets in 2013 and 2014, some with racial references and one which criticised women’s football. He was charged with misconduct by the FA last week.

“Hamza Choudhury has been fined 5,000 pounds and ordered to attend an FA education course by an Independent Regulatory Commission after he admitted to an ‘aggravated breach’ of FA Rule E3(1),” the FA said in a statement at the time.

“Comments posted by the Leicester player on social media… which included reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or sexual orientation, were found to be abusive and/or insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.”

Twitter users have reacted with Hamza Choudhury arrested by police after being ‘caught drink driving and refused breathalyser’…

@lcfc_pigeon: Not a great look for the club. I’d sell him.

@lcfc_pigeon: Add to that the Palestine tweets, the covid parties….. at some point you just think enough is enough. Not the role model the club would seem to like. Cash in.

@sparky__26: Hamza choudhury charged with drink driving? Doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. Didn’t think he was supposed to drink either….

@c4m_183: Time to get rid. Too many chances. Yet he gets new deal after new deal #lcfc

@seanfromenderby: Cancel his contract @lcfc

@adamlongley: Was he still pissed last night?

@JoeHemmings3: Get him fucking gone, twice in three months he’s bringing negative news to himself and the club. All that dough and he’s choosing to drive rather than get a taxi/pay someone to drive.
