Grimsby’s in-game tweets for cup upset goes viral, but club is forced to delete Harvey Price tweet

Grimsby’s in-game tweets for their cup upset against Southampton goes viral, but the club is forced to delete a tweet with Harvey Price in.

Gavan Holohan netted twice at St Mary’s to give the League Two outfit a famous victory against their Premier League opposition, with Grimsby getting drawn with Brighton in the quarter finals of the FA Cup.

Some surprised social media users were critical of the Mariners for summing up their crazy day, using a video which showed Harvey Price saying “what a day”.

Now for many fans, they thought the club did nothing wrong, some laughed and others complained saying they expect the club to take it down.

The club wrote: “Signing off for the night! Enjoy your night, Town fans” along with a video of Harvey in which he says “what a day”.

After the tweet of Harvey Price, who has Prader-Willi Syndrome, ADHD, and partial blindness, some anger emerged on social media, leading the post being taken down.

A statement was released by the club: “It has come to our attention that an inappropriate gif was posted on the club’s official Twitter account late last night following our game against Southampton in the Emirates FA Cup.

“The post was removed this morning as soon as we were made aware.

“We would like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence it has caused.”

This post came just days after a misconduct hearing heard Met Police officers had made derogatory comments about Harvey in a WhatsApp group.

In February 2022, it was revealed that Harvey had allegedly been the subject of “inappropriate and derogatory” images which was shared by a number of officers in the group chat.

TV personality Katie shared an image of a letter, which dates back to the 26th of January, via her Instagram account, explaining the alleged misconduct. She wrote: “I feel I need to share this hand delivered letter from the Metropolitan Police.

“It’s disgusting that police officers from here have felt the need to laugh and use disgusting content on Harvey by creating a what’s app group. I would attend this court day but I’m away. They need to be named shamed and exposed.”

Back to Grimsby now and the club issued a statement the day after their FA Cup win, saying: “We are absolutely delighted to reach the Quarter Finals of this season’s Emirates FA Cup and make competition history in the process.

“Last night’s 2-1 victory at Premier League Southampton epitomised everything which we have come to expect from Paul Hurst’s team in the last 18 months – it was a performance full of grit, determination and moments of quality which have left memories that will last a lifetime.

“In defeating Southampton, we also became the first club in FA Cup history to beat five teams from higher divisions and reach the last eight. We are incredibly proud that that record now belongs to the Mariners.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Paul, Chris, their staff, and all of the players for another wonderful night for Grimsby Town Football Club, and the 4,300 supporters who travelled hundreds of miles on a Wednesday night to cheer on the Mariners. Last night the whole footballing world got to see how amazing our fans are.

This is what fans had to say as Grimsby’s in-game tweets for cup upset goes viral, but the club is forced to delete the Harvey Price tweet…

@RossHannah2: What a tweet man 😂😂😂 The Grimsby admin rippin on the bus up the road firing this out is tremendous.

@owenhowe13: That’s Grimsby getting hammered. Taking the piss out of disabled people after they win. What a rotten club.

@HujaWang: How are they taking the piss? 🤨

@owenhowe13: Many other ways to say what a day, and especially with a win against spurs, why not use a photo of their winning side? Absolute horrible club

@TylerJa31695006: Tbh this says more about you that you instantly look at the disability and think “Oo they’re taking the piss I’m going to tweet about it and make myself look good” and not just the fact that all he’s saying is “what a day”, they haven’t picked it cos he’s disabled you plank

@TomStirk1992: Show me where they take out of piss out of him?

@ms_th19: What are you thinking with this?

@Conorhen4: Tweet in very poor taste from account that has such reach

@KyleighFisher10: Why? They’ve had a busy day?

@SFisher80: The problem when you let youngsters loose on your social media. This is in extremely poor taste. Will be very interesting to see what the FA says. They either truly believe in inclusiveness and championing disabilities or they tolerate making disabilities a joke

@DPGCM88: He literally says “what a day” which sums up today for us. If it was anyone else saying “what a day” you wouldnt be replying. Youre the one making it an issue. Youre the one making it about disability. The meme is based on public tv footage. Are you saying he shouldnt use it because the lad is disabled? Doesnt that make you the one excluding people because of disability?

@BCAFCBH: They’re not mocking him in the slightest, it’s using a quote just like you would from a player or any other non-disabled person. This is the problem when you let snowflakes loose on social media, everything gets cancelled.

@MeganGarbutt03: Hearing that people want the FA to investigate the Harvey Price tweet Grimsby put out last night! Some people 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️

@eddienicholas: It’s incredible that people still look at something like this and go yeah this’ll work.

@SteD1981: Fuckin hell 😂😂😂

@JrmTansey: I don’t see how people are saying it’s taking the piss? It’s a very well known clip saying what a day and it’s one if Grimsbys biggest results ever so what a day it was for them. Doesn’t matter that he’s disabled, the clip was used because people know what the clip is

@mofomat: There are many clips that are “well-known” which also shouldn’t be used. It’s ubiquity is irrelevant. The question you should be asking yourself is “why is the clip famous?”

@JrmTansey: Because it’s a famous figure who was made famous because of his mother. Generally speaking well known clips come from well known people.

@NLBIBLE4: To all the people moaning. Did you moan when this exact clip was aired on national tv or when his own mother sold him out for her own gain at half the nightclubs in the country?
