Graeme Souness makes cheeky digs at Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher but slams Gary Lineker and his fellow MOTD pundits in a new interview.
The 69-year-old has admitted that he wouldn’t have “walked out”, on the BBC, after Gary Lineker had been stepped down from Match of the Day duty over his comments about the government’s asylum policy.
Lineker’s colleagues boycotted the broadcast, which saw it continue without commentary or punditry for just 20 minutes.
Ian Wright and Alan Shearer joined in with the protests as BBC sporting coverage was heavily reduced. They then had to do a U-turn in public and reinstate Lineker.
Souness, who announced his departure from Sky Sports recently, admitted that he had continued to work. Listen to what he said along with a list of other stuff below in this insightful interview…
Speaking on William Hill’s Up Front with Simon Jordan, Souness said: “If it had been me, I wouldn’t have walked out. It wasn’t Gary Lineker’s first time upsetting people and I don’t think he should’ve said what he did because when you take the BBC’s money you have to be very careful with what you say politically. Freedom of speech is something that doesn’t apply when you work for the BBC, I think you have to be very careful.
“In my opinion I think punditry should be impartial – I think I’ve tried to be. I’ve been doing it for 20 years and when Liverpool have had barren years, I’ve been critical of them, and when Manchester United were having a great time, I was complementary about them because they are one of the biggest football clubs in the world. They’re one of the handful of clubs that you can hold up with the likes of Liverpool, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona.”
Souness also took aim at Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, describing his two ex-colleagues as the “Chuckle Brothers” before claiming that the G Nev icon “oversteps the mark” on occasions: “Punditry is like every other thing on TV, sometimes you want to watch it, sometimes you don’t.
“I like listening to Roy Keane. The chuckle brothers [Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher] can be quite entertaining. I think Gary fights every cause going and I think he oversteps the mark with some of his crusades that he goes on, because in certain subjects no one really wants to listen to Gary Neville.”
“The chuckle brothers are… Entertaining.” 🤣

Gary Neville quote tweeted the clip, saying: “Are their two Graeme Souness’s? That isn’t the one I spoke to on Sunday! Jordan is like Boris. Will take everyone down with him 😂😂” while Carra replied with the Chuckle Brothers GIF.
Jordan responded to Neville: “Oh dear … looks who’s popped up, the old champagne socialist 🤡
“I said to Graeme , careful the old de facto munchkin mayor of Manchester, with his memo from sky saying he’s always right will get cross!
“Listen don’t worry your podcast will be no1 again I’m sure 😜”

This is what social media users said as Graeme Souness makes cheeky digs at Neville and Carragher but slams Lineker and MOTD pundits…
@sport73: Stopped listening to Talksport to be honest it became very stale and repetitive with non stop adverts.
@Jfar_whufc: You’ll struggle to find two men I hate more in the media than Souness and Jordan! Both seriously outdated with poor opinions who set out to polarise and nothing more, nothing less! They’re comments rarely come from the land of the factual
@steviewatson01: Listened to it, apart from the Debra charity thing at the end, souness spouted a load of nonsense in a very articulate way. To avoided answering question about why he did a woke apology at same time insisting he isn’t afraid of being cancelled.
@edwards2779: Souness is right 🛎️ end
@LukeParsons3: That was painful to listen to. Souness needs a Lucozade
@WeatherHum: Souness is ultimately a coward. He won’t be missed, had nothing new to say. Let him grieve for Rangers
@Inthemanshed: He’s not wrong though
@Murv91: God, this is fucking painful.
@steadie1: Chuckle Brothers 😃 😀 he is not wrong there
@MarkMcC32: He’s not wrong about you and Carragher, scripted nonsense all the time
@TouchlineAnt: This is so poor from Simon, seems like a desperate attempt to be controversial & sensationalist. Completely goes away from what’s made him a respectable pundit.
@heisyouknow_: Simon is the epitome of the way society now salivates over someone because they’re rich. He shouts and uses big words and everyone thinks he’s a genius. Never mind he bankrupted Palace.
@Dec_green: What a pair of dull cunts, blokes got a scarf on indoors to top it off
@joeybyrne1210: This is fucking great
@joshmorton4: Well I thought I couldn’t hate Graeme Souness anymore than I do, then I see him in that scarf
@mike_kieran17: I love Simon, I don’t always agree with him, but it’s his approach “don’t be a fanny” I’m going to enjoy this a lot!
@benunited20: No one take any fashion advice from him, christ what is that
@Toffa1981: The irony of fucking Souness calling @GNev2 and @Carra23 the Chuckle Brothers with the absolute shite he spouts on weekly basis! Fucking clown!
@AntonyMullin11: Gone up in my estimation souness 😂
@ScottRatcliffe7: Simon Jordan who permanently rams his opinions down peoples throats & is always right!, if only all your decisions were that good when you was running palace, you wouldn’t have to work on a radio station for a few quid a year.
@KooshyKooo: Simon … @GNev2 is very vocal about the Glazers …. But very silent on how his buisness partner and fellow Salford City owner as destroyed Valencia and could see them relegated with tens of thousands refusing to go in the stadium at weekend and mass protests …
@Sebmeister: Brilliant interview by @Sjopinion10. No nonsense questioning. Straight to the point. Carra and Neville are the Chuckle Twins 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@lillywhite10: The paucity of true quality in football punditry is shameful considering we have to pay to watch them all. Compared to other sports football fans have been taken for granted.
