Gillingham owner Brad Galinson doesn’t hold back as he made the admission of the club having a ‘sh*t season’ promises changes this summer.
The Gills currently sit 17th in League Two with 46 points from 40 games. They are winless in their last 8 matches. Chairman and owner Brad took to Twitter two days after a 2-2 draw with Walsall.
@BradGalinson tweeted: “No denying shit season. Complete rehaul coming in summer. Hopefully we learn, improve, and build it better.
“That being said, seeing the potential yesterday with those goals was something to build on. Seeing our fans, as usual, traveling and chanting was something I needed. Thanks for that. At some point soon we’re going to ask for that support for next season with a cool season ticket launch.
“Wish it was better this season but we move on; look to the World Cup; preseason; friendlies (we have some solid matches); and we go again, together, like we always do. Brad.”

“Shan and I (and Joe and Gaz and Dobbo and everyone else) still love and support this team and the fanbase. Stick with us. All we can do is survive the battles until we reinforce the foundation. It hurts.
“But can you imagine, some day, how it will feel when we finish our work? Another thing, while I wholeheartedly support the Gills and English football, I, along with nine other L1 and L2 owners, are taking a stand on the state of the EFL. It loses £500M per season and nearly all its clubs are within 1 month of being Sheffield Wednesday.
“No business owner on the planet, myself included, would affiliate with that sort of incompetence. And it is far too much heartbreak for communities to bear. Cannot continue for even a single season.”

Gills boss Gareth Ainsworth said to the club media after the draw against Walsall: “We are getting there. It was not perfect, as we conceded two goals, but to come back from 1-0 down to go in front. The first one was a cracking goal, a really good goal. The second was an opportunist from Seb [Palmer-Houlden], which is brilliant.
“The fans were absolutely superb, thank you. It has been tough, and there is no hiding from that. I will front it up every time, but it has been tough. We all needed that. The fans, the players and me. I will keep working, I will keep pushing, and I will keep striving.
“I had a bit of a go at half-time because I thought that we didn’t play forward enough. I thought that we were very negative, and kept going a bit safe. I don’t want safe. I want exciting, I want front foot, and I want forward play. That was shown in that first goal. I thought that it was superb. Walsall were on the back foot, and we then took the lead. If we defend a corner better, then we take the game, maybe. That would have been a fantastic win, but this is a team that is going for the play-offs, and are very close to the play-offs.
“We have matched them today, more than matched them at times.
“I am really pleased today with the result. We stopped the defeat run, which is really important, and now I want to win against Accrington on Monday.
“The three forwards today, Ronan [Hale], Seb and Garath [McCleary] linked up really well for that first goal. It is a really special goal. That is right up there.
“People like the thirty-yarders, and I think that Robbie McKenzie scored a worldie here last year, and everyone remembers that. That one should be remembered because that is a really clever goal. To have your centre forward in about 20 yards of space in their box, how has that worked?
“That has worked by good play and good, clever people. That is why Garath McCleary has played at the level that he has played, and he finds that pass. It needed finishing, and he is a great finisher, Ronan. I am really pleased for him. He is going to score a lot of goals for this club. I am pretty certain of that.
“We can be cleverer sometimes. We go into a fight and show our hand and go, ‘This is us.’ Sometimes, other teams are a little bit more experienced and will win the fight in a little clever way. We need to learn those clever ways, but I have got some youngsters in the team, and they need to learn that way.
“People are using their body for somebody that is going for a header and things like that. We have got to be cuter on that. You have got to learn these things in football because they exist. Once we get that full package, we are going to be a good outfit. I have got three or four that I know that I can work with, but I think there has to be some changes.
On Accrington Stanley on Easter Monday: “John Doolan has got a really good squad together, and they work so hard as a team together.
“We will go up against a tough Accrington side, but we are at home, and it is Easter Monday, and thankfully, we did not get beat today. We got a good, well-deserved point away from home, and that is something to build on.
“We will prepare right, and we will set up for Accrington and what they bring.”
Here’s how fans responded after Gillingham owner Brad Galinson made the admission of the club having a ‘sh*t season’ promises changes this summer…
@GillinghamFCSC: Great honesty Brad. As difficult as times have been this season, we know you are working hard behind the scenes to do everything possible to get us moving forward. Exciting times to see big necessary changes. Up The Gills 💙 🤍
@FredPerry1965: Honesty is always the best policy. You saw how we played better on the grass than Hoofball. You now need to be honest with the Manager, Josh Andrews isn’t the right forward for us.
@jongills81: I said it when you took over. I was happy to take 5 years in div 2 if you built a club again. The decade of neglect left a shaky foundation to build on.
@BlueBrazil1975: Appreciate you being so candid Brad. Not sure if there is a similar phrase in the US but in the UK we say “you cannot polish a turd” & to be fair you didn’t and have acknowledged big changes need to be made.We needed to hear this and us fans are totally behind you and Shannon 💙
@DannyGipson: 100% agree Brad. Just don’t fall into the trap again of giving anyone a new contract who has consistently failed to be at the standard required. Some of those still manage a start every week & that needs to change
@GillinghamStew: Best mean it Brad. No more lazy management in the Summer please and rewarding our underperformers. Fans deserve so much better. Hale proves what can be achieved with proper investment.
@JRPKent: It’s in the rough times, that loyalty matters most and I’ve always said we are here for a long time, not just a good time. We are fully behind yourself and Shannon, Joe, and of course Gaz and his staff & players. We are very much looking forward to an exciting 2026-2027 season.
@jake180801: It’s the honesty that we want, you have been great for our club, next season we’ve got to go up. Up the Gills
@ME8Gills: Let’s not get carried away about potential based on a draw at Walsall. Yesterday was the bare minimum so the bar has been set incredibly low this season.
@BobbyMa00187643: Yesterday was the bare minimum standard that us fans want. Fighting for every ball, playing for each other. Getting stuck in. We’ve been guilty of not doing that for months. Yesterday was a big improvement on recent weeks. Back that up Monday and you’ll get a satisfied fan base.
@n_banksy_: The players didnt scout themselves, didnt sign themselves and didnt give themselves contract extensions. The overhaul doesnt just belong in the pitch
@Jinxysmith: Love that you saved the club. Love what you’ve done off the pitch. Am not sure the current manager’s brand of football is something to get excited about no matter how large the clear out. It felt like Hale’s goal yesterday happened in spite of the manager not because of him.
@RCurston: Frustrating season for all Brad. Thanks for all the support and energy you and your family bring …looking forward to a more productive season next year.
@mickhall238441: Words of a supporter, not really expected of an owner Thank you Brad, for your honesty and for what you want to do for ‘THE GILLS ‘
@daneharper: Theres been some real highs despite the recent lows. I firmly believe GA is the man to take us forward. Football is much more than the match & result. My dad took me, his dad took him, I take my son & 1 day I hope he’ll take his children. The boy and I will be there next season !
@rainhamendgills: In my view Brad, those who have been responsible for bringing these players in need to go. They are clearly not good enough and that falls on the recruitment team. It’s not just been 1 window either it’s been over 3 seasons now.
@NH32563455: Thank you Brad. As I’ve said before, we’re fortunate to have you and Shannon as owners. Hopefully you and Gareth will not be persuaded to give the vast majority of the out of contract players new deals! A big fat no thank you!!
@MrEgaraf: We are still all with you Brad. You saved our club from he who shall not be named. Let’s kick on next season and do it right
@GillsInTheBlood: Key words for me in this ‘Complete rehaul coming in summer’. Also agree about the potential of bits from yesterday; some encouraging signs in terms of play between Dack, McCleary, Hale & Palmer-Houlden & that first is one of the best best TEAM goals I can recall in recent years.
