Gillingham interim boss Keith Millen ended up getting sent off for tripping up a Walsall player attempting to take a throw-in.
The 57 year old saw red for bizarrely tripping the Saddlers winger Tom Knowles after just 29 minutes on the clock of the League Two fixture.
Referee Charles Breakspear sent Millen to the stands by referee Charles Breakspear, leaving goalkeeper coach Deren Ibrahim to direct his side from the dugout, and youth boss Mark Moss having to assist.

Isaac Hutchinson netted a hat-trick and setting up the other to help Walsall win 4-1 at home.
His first came with 34 minutes on the clock as Hutchinson made his way past a number of defenders, then curled the ball home with a left-footed shot from the edge of the area.
Hutchinson then sent Freddie Draper on his way to slot the ball coolly past Gills goalkeeper Jake Turner.
Hutchinson made it 3-0 on 58 minutes when a low left-footed finish when in at the near post.
Gillingham got a consolation goal three minutes after with Bonne netting from close range after Connor Mahoney was denied by the keeper.
After Draper saw his lob hit the crossbar, Hutchinson headed home Ross Tierney’s 85th-minute cross to seal the 4-1 win.

Mark Moss said: We’re bitterly disappointed we’ve fallen short today of the standards that the first team group set themselves this season. We’re disappointed for ourselves, we’re disappointed for the fans, but we’ve got to bounce back, we’ve got the perfect game next week at home. Well, we’ve been generally very good. Perfect game to bounce back next week against Notts County. Obviously, we’ve got to address the away form, but perfect game to bounce back to next week.
Interviewer: Yeah. In terms of today, I guess didn’t cope with one player is what do we have a hat trick and an assist for all the goals?
MM: Yeah. Listen, as a collective, it’s not just one player. Obviously, as a collective, we’ve got to be better, we’ve got to defend better as a collective without the ball and then, yeah, at this level, if you don’t defend properly, and that’s not just the defenders and the goalkeeper, that’s the whole team if you don’t defend properly, then you get punished. And we got punished today. We’ve conceded some poor goals from our point of view.
Jayden Clarke: We’re all very disappointed in there. We know as a group we’ve set a high standard in the past and we haven’t reached that today, but we’ll be back in Monday and try and correct it for a big game next week.
Interviewer: I guess you obviously came into this one with high hopes. There was a possibility that if the result were gone a certain way, you could have gone top of the table. So I guess you’re obviously, naturally disappointed in that sense.
JC: Yeah, you’re disappointed to lose any game of football wherever you are in the table and, yeah, we know recently we haven’t been the best away from home. We thought this was a good opportunity to try and correct that, but unfortunately, it wasn’t to be today and we just have to go again onMonday and prepare for next week.
Interviewer: And obviously, defensively, at the start of the season, very solid, a lot of clean sheets and shipping four, I guess, obviously for the goalkeeper and for the defence, but for the whole team that will have sort of hurt your pride a little bit.
JC: Yeah, obviously you can’t obviously every game keep a clean sheet. We tried our best to try and prevent as many goals as possible, but it wasn’t to be today. And, yeah, as I said, we’ll come in on Monday and look back on the game and see what we could have done better and try and perfect it for next week.
