Gateshead please fans on Tuesday afternoon after confirming the permanent appointment of their new manager, Carl Magnay.
The former player, who most recently was at Carlisle United alongside Mike Williamson, returns to the club to take over the vacant position.
Many have been left delighted that he’s given the opportunity to take his hometown club into the promised land.
Gateshead currently sit 4th in the National League with 26 points from 13 games played.

CLUB STATEMENT:
Gateshead FC is delighted to confirm the appointments of Carl Magnay and Liam Bridcutt as the club’s new permanent manager and coach.
Magnay returns to Tyneside for the third time to take the reins as our new manager, having spent time as a first-team coach with MK Dons and Carlisle United after departing his coaching role with Gateshead previously this summer.
The 35-year-old made 122 appearances during his time on Tyneside as a player, appearing twice at Wembley Stadium in the 2014 Conference Premier play-off final and the 2023 FA Trophy final, before assisting Rob Elliot and Louis Storey as a coach when Gateshead lifted the FA Trophy under the arch in 2024.
He also played a key role in the club’s 2021/22 National League North title winning campaign – including scoring in the promotion-sealing draw at Chorley on the penultimate day.
Magnay is joined by Bridcutt as the club’s new coach, with the pair previously appearing alongside each other as players for Chelsea U21s in their youth.
Bridcutt made over 360 appearances across the top four tiers of English football during his 16-year playing career before retiring in February 2024, and has most recently spent time as a sessional coach with Newcastle United’s academy system.

“It was hugely important to the Board of Directors that the necessary time be taken to bring the right people to Gateshead Football Club, and we appreciate our supporters’ patience over recent weeks.
“We are fully confident that Carl is the right person to continue the club’s progression – just as he has done in his previous spells as a player and a coach – and we look forward to seeing he and Liam get to work this week.”
