Gareth Ainsworth has been labelled ‘deluded’ by fans for giving a dreadful interview after his side suffered a 4-0 defeat at Watford.
Goals from Tom Dele-Bashiru, Imran Louza, Matheus Martins and Vakoun Bayo helped Valerien Ismael to a comfortable first win as the new Hornets boss in the Championship.
It took just 33 seconds for the hosts to go ahead with Louza playing in Dele-Bashiru, who slotted the ball past Begović to make it 1-0.
Watford found their second on the 22nd minute, Louza was in space on the edge of the box and curled it with his left foot, into the bottom corner.
It was 3-0 on 40 minutes, and a first Watford goal for Martins with Sema’s delivery headed in by the Brazilian, who made a clever front-post run.
Then shortly after, Sierralta saw a shot go across goal and head wide, only for Bayo to slide it in at the back post.
As per West London Sport, QPR boss Gareth Ainsworth said: “Sometimes you have to hold your hands up and say we weren’t good enough.
“The boys gave everything and that’s what everyone’s asked [for]. They did give everything.
“On the day, Watford were much better than us. I think they played really well.
“We played a good side today. I don’t know where Watford are going to finish but I expect them to be up and around it.
“On the flip side, we know where we are. We’re favourites for relegation, favourites for bottom of the league.
“If we’d have been favourites for the play-offs or favourites for promotion I would have been really struggling and thinking ‘What the hell’s gone on today?’
“But we’re building where we build [from], and we have been for one or two seasons now – I think we were one of the favourites for relegation last season as well. We scraped it, and I tell you what: we’ll get out of it again, no problem.
“I think we can be better than we were last season, but it’s going to take a bit of time and a bit of patience and probably one or two more players coming through the door, which will happen.”

Watford’s Valerien Ismael:
“I knew the guys were ready, we worked hard for seven weeks so they gave us the feeling they were ready for the competition.
“I told them just to get their rewards, to put their attitude and intensity in the game. It was a perfect start for everyone, not about the result but more about the attitude to get the reward after seven weeks of hard work.
“The combination for the goals, we’ve worked on it for seven weeks, the positioning of the players, we attack together and defend together.
“It was the perfect first step but nothing more. But the way we scored the goals, the combinations, the positioning from the players, it was all very pleasing.”
“I’m more than pleased with the performance.” 👊

Here’s what fans had to say with Gareth Ainsworth labelled ‘deluded’ for giving what some called a dreadful interview after the 4-0 defeat at Watford…
@spenno1990: He’s turned into David Brent now. Sad to see as he’s a top man and I loved him as a player but this interview is a car crash.
@ByrneBarry: Fans clinging on to the hope that because of delayed post match interview he had been sacked. Oh well. What a way to start the season.
@CallumJeffs66: Absolute clown. Sack him before it’s too late.
@CharlieGlover91: Speaking about survival after 1 game, someone tell him we’re not at Wycombe any more. Gone by September I’m afraid , I can’t see Steve gallen working with him, Kevin thinks he’s a shambles.
@louisdvb12: We have match winners? Yes we have Willock but you don’t play him
@adamgoodman3:
Note to the gaffer:
(1) We know we need another 3 or 4 players while getting the team we already have fit and healthy
(2) With that said, the first half was a master class on tactical ineptitude — better to have just “parked the bus” and hoped for the best
(3) If you really believe lads gave everything they had on the pitch today, you’re either deluding the fans, yourself, OR worst of all, you’re right. If that’s the case, we’re headed toward a season of misery.
One suggestion in your post match remarks: don’t coddle the truth, or defend poor play. Be straight with us, and we’ll do our best to muddle through the current state of misery in pursuit of something far better.
@lucas_magnusson: This club probably won’t exist much longer unless things happen. Standing and smiling after a 4-0 loss in the premiere, talk about destroying such a long-established beautiful club to the bottom ruins. Ainsworth out. Bhatia out. Lee Hoos out. Everyone out. Save this club!
@rangersjunkie: One of his worst ever interviews. If not the worst. So negative always talking about keeping the club in the championship and relegation. How can he be pleased with what he saw against a mid table side or in his eyes “potential league winners”
@MrRussellmyn: “We might of just played the league winners” that’s enough to turn off the interview
@Sim_mp_son: “Everyone gave everything today” – is this bloke for real?
@SimonBarcessat: We are doomed. Board appointed a man with no experience at this level, no style of play that aligned to what we were trying to develop plus they have no invested in the squad. The young players are national league at best. Dreadful
@13gpm: That’s enough. We are rubbish, we are poor, we are up against it BUT this guy IS NOT the answer! I’ve tried to back him but he’s out of his depth, maybe many others would be too. We simply have to change.
@Loneranger80: Absolutely fu*king deluded #QPR
@danogould: Awful team selection, poor tactical ability at this level. Just allowed Watford to keep punishing us from the same areas. Sorry Gareth, loved you as a player & you’re a great guy but I don’t think you’ve got what it takes to succeed at this level.
@Paulska691: The way he has us playing is not QPR,fans wont stand for this one bit. Loads of fans will stop going and gates will nose dive this season,i for one have had enough and i’m past caring now. Yet again another horrendous mistake by the board bringing Ainsworth in. Desperate times.
@TreyvonMT_75: Waffle waffle and more waffle is all I heard. A goal conceded within THE FIRST MINUTE… Stop giving me excuses, man!
@TreyvonMT_75: I get that the club is not in a great position, and we need to have patience, but we can’t keep taking severe beatings like this, until we get to where we want to be
@cole_qpr: Are you taking the piss
@StacksSonny: That is a man completely out of his depth, he’s happy with players who ”run around” what a div. Cannot wait until the day he is sacked
@stuarthazeldine: ‘They gave everything’… yet also ‘we only had two shots from distance’ and ‘we weren’t passing enough’ and Watford were pressing, meaning we weren’t… so what was this ‘everything’ they were giving? They were haring about chasing shadows, hardly putting a tackle in all game!
@steve_edwards91: The complete silence in this interview about willock says everything. I think the club have offered him out and waiting for bids because no manager in their right mind starts Kelman over him!
@keefarcher: He means well I think we all know that, and he also cares. There’s a lot going on there though its not in any way coherent or thought through, and it worries me
@calumedgar_10: If everyone gave everything out there today we won’t win a game all year. Awful
