Furious Samuel Eto’o filmed kneeing man in the face in confrontation after Brazil match

A furious Samuel Eto’o has been filmed kneeing man in the face in a heated confrontation after the Brazil – South Korea match.

Footage of the former Chelsea and Everton player, uploaded by La Opinion, went viral fast on social media as the incident happened when he was making his way out of Stadium 974 in Doha on Monday evening.

Eto’o, 41, had been in attendance as Brazil tore South Korea apart in their first knockout round match of the 2022 edition of the World Cup.

Eto’o looked in good spirits as he smiled and took photos with fans while leaving the stadium. However, it quickly turned nasty as Eto’o tried to leave.

The man allegedly made a comment to the Cameroonian, and Eto’o – after at first walking away – turned around to confront the man.

He is then be seen chasing the male, who appeared to be a YouTuber with more than 60,000 subscribers, holding a camera to the face of Eto’o.

Eto’o has to be held back by a group of onlookers – with others around attempting to lead away the man that had been filming Eto’o.

However, Eto’o manages to break free, and then knees the man in the face, causing the man’s head to fly back and collapses on the ground.

Eto’o is then taken away from the incident as the man shouts something in the direction of the former footballer.

Eto’o was reportedly asked what made him react in such a way, but as since refused to add more light on the situation.

The Cameroon star is now likely to be the subject of investigation and it remains to be seen what happens next, no doubt some form of punishment with pressure put on FIFA and the Qatari authorities to investigate.

He took to Twitter this afternoon to post an apology for his actions: “On last 5 December, after the Brazil-South Korea match, I had a violent altercation with a person who was probably an Algerian supporter.

“I would like to apologise for losing my temper and reacting in a way that does not match my personality. I apologise to the public for this unfortunate incident.

“I pledge to continue to resist the relentless provocation and daily harassment of some Algerian supporters. Indeed, since the Cameroon-Algeria match on 29 March in Blida, I have been the target of insults and allegations of cheating without any evidence.

“During this World Cup. Cameroonian fans have been harassed and pestered by Algerians on the same subject. I would like to mention that the scenario of Algeria’s defeat was cruel but perfectly in line with the rules and ethics of our sport.

“All the appeals made by the Algerian Football Federation to the competent jurisdictions have been rejected. I therefore call on the Algerian authorities and Federation to take their responsibilities to put an end to this unhealthy climate before a more serious tragedy occurs.

“To Fennecs’ fans, I wish that they find peace and manage to overcome the disappointment of a painful defeat, now behind us.”

This is what social media users said as a furious Samuel Eto’o is filmed kneeing a man in the face in confrontation after the Brazil – South Korea match…

@connorlinsdell_: Not doing anything when the kid is face to face but then waiting until the kid is off guard and kneeing him in the face? Samuel Eto’o is a cunt.

@dan_howett: Well if that’s an England fan in Qatar he’s getting banged up in a cell

@23Newms: Eto’o still hitting the target. What a finish.

@alexdavis_16: I assume he asked him about his tournament predictions

@jasmin259: This shouldn’t have happened for whatever reasons! Violence has no justification!

@ChumaNnoli: Samuel Eto’o is a great guy who’s done amazing things that deserve praises. However, that video of him getting physical with a guy in Qatar doesn’t look good. I get he was provoked by the man but, as a football great and now FA President, he should have handled that better.

@LightfootShane: It was fully deserved guy should of got out his face

@JeffKwakuM: What on earth did he say to make Eto’o do that lol? That lawsuit will hit him hard though

@clifftop22: To quote the immortal words of the once great Jamie Vardy – chat shit, get banged

@dankoogs: Dunno what was said but I support Eto’o in this.

@TheAFCFranco: It’s the cleanest strike he’s ever hit!

@Dee_NYS: What in the heckkkk!!!

@M____0____B: Disgraceful, why do people find the need to be violent.

@KemzFitness: Probably well deserved, guy looks like a cunt

@PaulClews2: Silly lad!!

@LukeByron: Did not expect to see Eto’o throwing flying knees on a Tuesday morning

@JPMCELHINNEY: Still got it hasn’t he Eto’o, some volley that

@adamrenshaw97: What a knee

@a_sufc: Never liked him, he’s always been big headed & arrogant

@RyanLFC5: Guy was asking for it but I love how eto’o had a chance to fight him fair and square but instead only kicked him in the head when he was down. Thug behaviour

@godson13_13: That guy was clearly looking for a reaction from Eto’o. He got it and now he’ll milk it for everything it’s worth.

@906030M: Once Everton touches you

@bobbyserban: That was not enough. The lad deserved a lot more than just a kick

@Ry4nH07: Should lose his job, Jonny big time

@MaimoWajiri: Eto’o was wrong to behave that way no matter what the guy said , Eto’o is an FA président, he needed to mind his actions. That wasn’t even a self defense move 🤦🏿‍♂️

@WLodge_39: Etoo will be the one punished for this but what was said to him to provoke such a reaction? People need to learn you can’t just give out abuse and not expect a reaction #Etoo
