Four players to watch in Chelsea vs Arsenal

Most football fans would agree that international breaks can be boring. However, the wait for the return of Premier League action on October 21 will be worth it, as Liverpool take on Everton at Anfield in the 12:30 kick-off before Chelsea host London rivals Arsenal at Stamford Bridge at 17:30.

It’s the latter we’re going to focus on in this article. The Blues and the Gunners have played out some real crackers over the years, and this fixture promises to be another. Mikel Arteta’s side are second in the table and the favourites if you’re looking for a Chelsea v Arsenal bet

However, Mauricio Pochettino has the Blues back on form, and a victory over their cross-city foes could see Chelsea restore their season. As always in the fixture, there’s a lot at stake, so let’s look at four players — two from each side — who could make a difference on the night.

Raheem Sterling – Chelsea

Kicking things off with the hosts, Raheem Sterling has arguably been Chelsea’s best player so far this season. The winger looked incredibly dangerous against Liverpool and West Ham United, winning a penalty against the latter, before scoring twice and setting up Nicolas Jackson against Luton Town.

The 28-year-old then lost his starting berth against Brighton and Fulham, but her was back in Pochettino’s XI for the game against Burnley and he repaid his manager’s faith when scoring Chelsea’s third goal in the 4-1 win.

Sterling should be well-rested after being left out of the England squad by Gareth Southgate, and he could be one of the Blues’ main threats here.

Bukayo Saka – Arsenal

Bukayo Saka has been struggling with a knock since the Gunners’ 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur. He missed out on Arsenal’s recent 1-0 win over Manchester City thanks to the injury, which then also forced him to withdraw from the England squad to face Australia and Italy.

However, there’s hope the 22-year-old will be fit for this fixture, and the Gunners will feel like they need him. Saka has four goals and two assists in his seven Premier League appearances this season and he would be a massive boost for Arteta’s side, should he be fit to play.

Cole Palmer – Chelsea

The second Chelsea pick could have easily been World Cup winner Enzo Fernandez, as the midfield battle is going to be key at Stamford. But after Cole Palmer’s recent performance against Burnley, it seems only right to turn our attention to the 21-year-old.

Palmer, who was part of the England squad that won the U21 European Championship in the summer, cooly converted from the penalty spot to fire Chelsea in front against Vincent Kompany’s men, and he later assisted Nicolas Jackson as the Senegal forward made it 4-1. He could be brimming with confidence.

Declan Rice – Arsenal

Arsenal’s marquee signing of the summer transfer window, Declan Rice made the switch from West Ham United to the Emirates for a club-record fee of £105 million. That would be a huge burden for many players, but Rice is thriving in north London and proving well worth his fee.

Rice has made 18 tackles, 13 interceptions, 10 clearances, 35 recoveries and even chipped in with a crucial winning goal in the dramatic 3-1 victory over Manchester United in September. The former Chelsea Academy player could once again make the Blues rue their decision to release him all those years ago.
