It has been revealed that Anthony Gerrard’s sacking by Oldham Athletic was due to the player posting a racist joke in a players’ WhatsApp group according to reports.
He was dismissed last month before going on to join League Two rivals Carlisle United, with the Latics saying they got rid of him for “gross misconduct arising from certain social media posts which brought the club into disrepute”.

According to the Mirror, the club became aware that Gerrard allegedly posted a joke about Ramadan on that players’ group, so they cut ties with him with 12 months left on his contract.
He chose not to appeal Oldham’s decision and at the time, he tweeted: “I think everyone has heard the new regarding myself and OAFC, when I feel the time is right I’ll give my thoughts on it ALL! Can’t wait to get back playing with Carlisle and looking for too the challenge ahead.”
