The former owner of now defunct North Ferriby United have taken over and change East Yorkshire Carnegie’s club name to East Hull FC.
It will come into effect from 2019/20 season, by Jamie Waltham following the news that chairman Dave Reader has stepped down.
Four months ago, Carl and Terry Chadwick submitted applications to change the name of North Ferriby to East Hull and relocate them 11 miles away to Dunswell Park – however that was rejected by the Northern Premier League.
They and including former owner Jamie Waltham came under fire from football supporters of North Ferriby and those within the non league community and a petition was launched on change.org – getting signed just under 10,000 times.
In a statement, Reader said: “Since my written resignation, we had been searching to fulfil the roles of chairman, secretary and treasurer and originally did have some interested parties but, after various meetings, these were deemed not suitable in what I believe the club has become and the reputation it has built.
“We are all aware the club originally was created by myself and Jamie Waltham until he took over at North Ferriby. The club (North Ferriby) has since gone into liquidation and therefore will no longer exist.
“I spoke with Jamie at length regarding the future of East Yorkshire Carnegie and the possibilities of him being involved with East Yorkshire Carnegie to help build and sustain the club.
“Therefore, he has agreed to become chairman for next season and ensure the club are represented not only at NCEL level but throughout the whole club.
“With this in mind, we also discussed options to help develop and to grow the club in numbers and stature, and therefore suggested a change of name to represent the area in which East Yorkshire Carnegie play.
“We have therefore agreed and informed the league and local East Riding County FA of not only the personnel changes and structure of East Yorkshire Carnegie that Jamie Waltham will become chairman and Dave Reader will resign from all positions within the club, but will now play their football under the name of East Hull FC”.
The new phoenix club for North Ferriby has in the last week been unveiled. Believe or not, them and East Hull might face each other in what will be a grudge match next season.
Understandably, fans have taken to social media to give their reaction, reflecting on when the new owner tried to change the name of North Ferriby before having his accepted for East Yorkshire Carnegie – check out what they had to say on the next page.
