Former Man Utd, Newcastle and Birmingham player arrested after assaulting woman

Ex-footballer Nicky Butt has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a woman it’s been reported.

The former Manchester United, Newcastle United and Birmingham City player was taken away by officers at his house on Tuesday afternoon.

Butt, who is now United’s head of youth academy, was bailed pending further inquires.

An eyewitness said, as quoted by Daily Star Online: “I saw him arrested at his home in Hale.

“From what I overheard, he went there to collect his belongings. There was a big argument and that’s when he allegedly assaulted her.”

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman also commented: “Police were called at around 2pm on Tuesday, 16 April, to reports that a woman had been assaulted at a house on Broadway, Hale.

“The woman received a small cut to her hand and does not require hospital treatment.

“A 44–year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody for questioning. Enquiries are ongoing.”

It certainly isn’t turning out to be a great week for former Red Devils players after it emerged yesterday that Paul Scholes has been hit with a misconduct charge by the Football Association after he had placed 140 bets on football.

It was back in August 2014 that the Football Association made it illegal for players and manager to officials and staff in football to bet on all matches.

After learning that Nicky Butt was arrested for assaulting a woman, fans took to social media to give their thoughts with some mocking him – find out what they had to say on the next page.
