Relevo reported that Rico had returned to his hometown after PSG coach Christophe Galtier decide to give his players a day off on the heels of their title-winning league win.
The accident happened while he was on a pilgrimage to Huelva.
Sergio Rico was in the PSG squad on Saturday for the penultimate game of the domestic competition in France, which they took on Strasbourg and drew 1-1, which was enough to be crowned Ligue 1 champions.
Rico, after that match, travelled to El Rocio in Huelva, where the pilgrimage was being celebrated, and it was Sunday morning on the Camino de Moguer when he suffered the accident that caused him to be taken to hospital.
The goalkeeper, after his time at Sevilla, had a spell at Fulham in England and was then signed by PSG, who loaned him out to Real Mallorca last season before returning to the Parisian club, where is a regular substitute behind Gianluigi Donnarumma.
It was on the 9th of August 2018, Rico was loaned to Fulham for one season, making his Premier League debut on the 27th of October, in a 3-0 home defeat against Bournemouth.
He edged out homegrown player Marcus Bettinelli as the starter for the West London club, who were relegated to the Championship at the end of the campaign.
Sergio Rico had clarified he wanted to remain at Fulham, but a season-long stay was all he got.
At the time, he said: “I have to come back to Seville but I would like to come here [England] next season because I am very happy here.
“I like the Premier League and I enjoy it a lot here in London, I am so happy. I don’t know the future now but I would like to come here again.”
He nearly got a return to English football in 2023, when Nottingham Forest were reportedly interested in him, only to go Keylor Navas instead.
The Reds were linked with a move to sign the Costa Rican but instead the French champions played hard ball.
