Former Cardiff and Newcastle players ‘injured’ in bus crash – one team mate and Czech player dead

Former Cardiff City and Newcastle United players Steven Caulker and Papiss Cisse is said to have been left ‘injured’ in a crash involving the Alanyaspor bus, which unfortunately has left one team mate of theirs dead.

According to reports, the overturned vehicle was carrying seven players back from the Turkish side’s 1-1 draw with Kayserispor, however the incident has seen Czech Republic player Josef Sural confirmed dead.

The former Premier League duo along with Djalma Campos, Baiano, Welinton and Isaac Sackey are said to be in a stable condition.

The team’s president Hasan Cavusoglu claims the driver fell asleep, although an investigation has not yet confirmed this.

He said: “According to the information I received from our police chief, despite there being two drivers on the vehicle, both were asleep.”

Turkey’s Football federation (TFF) released a statement saying: “We have learned with great sadness that Josef Sural, who was seriously injured as a result of an accident in a private minibus carrying Aytemiz Alanyasporlu football players, died in the hospital where he was treated, and six players were injured.

“We would like to express our deepest condolences and appreciation to all lovers of the Alanyaspor community.”
