A footballer is currently fighting for his life with another player and their manager injured after being ‘struck by a car’.
A man has been charged with five counts of attempted murder after ploughing into multiple people in Arnold, Nottingham in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Woodthorpe Park Rangers of the Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division have issued a statement saying three members of their club were hospitalised, and send their prayers with one of their players suffering life threatening injuries.
In earlier updates by Nottingham Police, they said: “Investigations have revealed an altercation took place in Arnold town centre a short time earlier. One man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Four other men suffered less serious injuries. The car was abandoned at the scene, with the driver then fleeing on foot. Counter Terrorism Police are not involved in the investigation.”
Detectives identified the suspect and tracked him down before being arrested and held on suspicion of attempted murder.

A club statement issued on the 10th of May, read: “We have had a lot of messages and contact not only from the footballing world but media sources also – so we would like to make the following statement.
“On Friday evening we celebrated our end of season awards, from a lovely evening this ended up in complete heartbreak, 3 members of our team including the manager was struck by a car in Arnold town centre.
“This has left one of our players fighting for his life in hospital, the other two are recovering well with small injuries we are hoping and praying for our player who is a much loved lad by all.
“We’re supporting each other the best we can, we are all clearly struggling right now and are asking for privacy and respect so we can get our heads around what has happened, this is a heartbreaking and awful time for our club.
“We thank you for all the well wishes and support

Nottingham Police said in a statement on the 11th of May: “A man has been charged with five counts of attempted murder following an incident in Arnold.
“Multiple pedestrians were injured after a red Vauxhall Astra mounted a kerb and struck a group of people.
“One man sustained life-threatening injuries during the collision in Market Place, Arnold, at 1.12am on Saturday (9 May).
“Detectives have been investigating the incident since then, with police arresting a 40-year-old man later that same day.
“Counter Terrorism Police have not been involved in the investigation.
“Suspect Duane Anthony has now been charged with multiple offences, including five counts of attempted murder.
“He has also been charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified and driving without valid insurance.
“Anthony, of Marton Road, Chilwell, is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court this morning (11 May).”

Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, who is leading the investigation for Nottinghamshire Police, said:
“As we share today’s news, our thoughts remain with those affected by this incident, in particular the man who sustained life-threatening injuries.
“The victims and their families have been updated on today’s charging decision, which we hope will provide some small degree of comfort at this difficult time.
“This was a shocking incident that will have been incredibly distressing for all those involved and anyone who witnessed it happen.
“On that note, I’d ask people to please not speculate about this incident, online or otherwise, as doing so could potentially impede the pursuit of justice.
“As our investigation continues, I would like to thank the entire investigation team, who worked around the clock throughout the weekend to help secure these charges.”
