Football rallies round to help devastated non league club after stadium fire

Football rallies round to help out devastated non league club Bedfont FC after suffering a stadium fire earlier this week.

Firefighters had to tackle a grass fire near Heathrow Airport on Monday the 1st of August with thick black smoke seen in the air and affecting plane traffic.

One hundred firefighters fought the blaze on Hatton Road in Feltham, with London Fire Brigade saying around six hectares of land was on fire.

Emergency services were called to the blaze at around 2.53pm with fire crews from Feltham, Chiswick, Heathrow, Heston and surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

People were advised to keep doors and windows closed as a lot of smoke was being generated by the blaze.

London Fire Brigade stated that the cause of the fire is currently not known but planes at Heathrow Airport were taking off from different runways as a result.

A statement released from Heathrow Noise states: “Good afternoon, due to smoke from a fire off-airport we will be switching back to landing on the northern runway (27R) and taking off from the southern runway (27L). We apologise for the disruption”.

Station Commander Paul Casey, who is at the scene, said: “The fire is producing a large amount of smoke. Residents in the local area, particularly around Bedfont Sports Club, should keep their windows and doors closed”.
