Footage emerges as FA ban Leeds’ Junior Firpo over ‘alleged headbutt’ on Millwall defender

Footage emerges as the FA ban Leeds’ Junior Firpo for three games over an ‘alleged headbutt’ on Millwall defender Danny McNamara.

Leeds United have suffered a setback with the announcement of a suspension on the day of their forthcoming Championship fixture against Queens Park Rangers.

The team is eager to regain their winning form after experiencing only their second defeat of the 2024/25 season during an away match against Millwall earlier on in the week.

Unfortunately, it results in additional complications for Leeds as they approach their final game before the international break.

Daniel Farke has indicated that there are no new injury concerns for the squad; but at 9am on Saturday, he has been informed that his side will be without a crucial player from his starting lineup for the next three fixtures.

Leeds has already faced suspensions for Junior Firpo and Jayden Bogle this season, both of whom have accumulated five yellow cards.

After serving a one-match suspension against Bristol City recently, Firpo is now set to be unable to play for the next three matches due to an incident that occurred after the conclusion of the Millwall game.

The FA Spokesperson’s Twitter account on Saturday morning confiremd that Firpo has been retrospectively banned for an alleged headbutt on Millwall defender Danny McNamara.

The incident hadn’t been spotted by the officials at the time, hence why the FA have been able to look back at footage and hand him a suspension.

Reports claim that Firpo denied the charge, but the first of his three-match ban will begin in today’s match against QPR at Elland Road, but he will also miss the trip to Swansea City, and home clash against Luton Town after the international break.

STATEMENT:

Leeds United defender Junior Firpo has been banned for three matches by the Football Association, beginning with this afternoon’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road.

The FA released the below statement on the matter:

‘Leeds United’s Junior Firpo has been suspended for three matches following their EFL Championship fixture against Millwall on Wednesday, 6 November.

The defender’s behaviour around the 95th minute wasn’t seen by the match officials, but was caught on video, and The FA alleged that it constitutes violent conduct.

Junior Firpo denied the charge against him, but an independent Regulatory Commission subsequently found it to be proven and imposed this suspension.’

Twitter users reacted footage emerges as the FA ban Leeds’ Junior Firpo over an ‘alleged headbutt’ on the Millwall defender…

@john959379: Can you advise the disciplinary process. This outcome has been delivered within 60 hours. Yet other announcements in last 24 hours relate to 27th October & 29th September. The inconsistency is not acceptable. Delivery of the outcome on the morning of a game is also disgraceful.

@mjgarrity72: Of course you have – corrupt

@maverickrhino: WTF? Announced 6 hours before a Saturday kick off? Obviously with the game being televised by Sky Sports+ it wasn’t only the officials that didn’t see this, nobody else has a clue given the diabolical TV coverage #lufc

@bradpates: 9am on a Matchday 🤣🤣🤣🤣

@BensonLUFC1987: Morning of the game turn it in, football leagues corrupt. Embarrassing

@Restinklichface: Timing is shocking from the FA but is anyone ready to have the conversation that this guy has cost us more games than Meslier? He’s got a song and a few assists though 🫠

@DavidGArmitage: A grown man should be ashamed to fall over like he did. I imagine no punishment for play acting pending @FAspokesperson

@robfordy96: If only we could correct all the mistakes the officials made that game… we’d have walked it, despite being poor.

@dazzler365: If a sending off offence in a live game is unseen by poor referees and assistants on all future matches. Are you going to retrospectively start handing out 3 match bans? No you won’t and yes… no consistency. Shameful.

@LUFCFANZ0NE: Correct to receive punishment for his actions, but to announce it at 9am the day of a game? Preston’s striker bit an opponent live on Sky Sports but continued playing for 2 weeks during the investigation, Firpo’s happened 60 hours ago and implemented 6hours before a game #LUFC

@RickyHogan: This is scandalous, making a decision at 9am of a match day, it wouldn’t be done to anybody else.

@RussCowlingFoto: Fucking wankers. Morning of the game when the incident happened Wednesday night. Now tell me they are not corrupt!

@IvorBig29545826: Morning of a game?!, absolute cunts

@ALPLUFC: Just admit you absolutely hate us and always have. I can’t remember one ruling you have ever given in our favour.
