There were a number of clubs who were forced to forfeit their place in the competition due to a player/staff contracting coronavirus.

Those to have had no choice but to leave the FA Vase so far as follows:

– FC Isle of Man (AFC Liverpool walkover) – First Qualifying Round
– Southwick (Seaford Town walkover) – First Qualifying Round
– Greenwich Borough (Cobham walkover) – First Qualifying Round
– Shelley Community (Bootle walkover) – Second Qualifying Round
– Exmouth Town (Sherborne Town walkover) – Second Qualifying Round
– Cadbury Heath (Ashton & Backwell United walkover) – Second Qualifying Round
– Jersey Bull (Cobham walkover) – First Round Proper

Due to coronavirus lockdown rules, some ties were played behind closed doors or restricted amount of spectators, though for some clubs, they had their biggest ever attendance.

For teams at these levels of football, it may be the last time they’re in action for a month, after Boris Johnson announced the country back into lockdown on Halloween night.

The Premier League, EFL, National League, and its North and South divisions look set to continue, whilst leagues below could be forced to stop, more to come out on that in the coming days no doubt.

There were astonishingly ten upsets in the FA Vase First Round Proper. So let’s get to them…

Walton & Hersham, you might know them, the club that are owned by a group of seven 20-year-old friends.

They have got their season off to a brilliant start, in the Combined Counties Football League Div One, they sit second, taking 20 points from 9 games so far.

They continued their great run of form in the cup, and managed to pull off a 3-0 win against league above Peacehaven & Telscombe who are having a bit of a disappointing time in the Southern Combination Premier Division.

250 fans (a record) turned up to the Elmbridge Xcel Sports Hub to witness the opening tie of First Round Proper.

Stuart Baldwin headed in from a corner to put those hosts 1-0 just before half time, then Walton & Hersham came out roaring in the second half, Harry Mills cutting in on his left and delivered a beautiful cross to Darren Simpson who headed the ball into the back of the net.

Skipper Joe Royhicks also scored via a header, to make it 3-0 by the 52nd minute, and managed to hold on to book a place in the next round.

Hellenic League Division One West side Malvern Town, who have a stunning backdrop may we add, also progressed through, knocking out Rothwell Corinthians of the United Counties League Premier Division.

252 spectators came through the turnstiles of the HD Anywhere Community Stadium to watch Malvern pull off a 3-1 win against a higher league club.

Malvern are storming their league this season, taking 9 wins from 10 games, and sit 9 points ahead of second place, who do have two games in hands however.

An extraordinary start draws two goals within the first four minutes, Malvern going one up after Lewis Platt had seen an effort well tipped over, the resulting corner was headed home at the far post by Harry Clark, then the visitors got back on level terms as Nat Gosnall-Tyler does well out wide to carve an opening for Callum Plowright who makes no mistake.

The third goal of the game came on in the 14th minute when a penalty was awarded for handball. Matt Turner manages to beat the ‘keeper from the spot even though Ash Bodycote got a touch on it.

Then Malvern sealed the win in the 74th minute, a sharp break ends with Joe Billingham firing into the net after great hold-up play in the build-up from Matt Turner.
