FC Halifax Town make announcement gaffe as they sign ex-Partick Thistle striker

FC Halifax Town managed to make an awkward announcement gaffe as they sign one particular ex-Partick Thistle striker on Thursday.

The Shayman proudly revealed that they have captured Lewis Mansell on a short-term loan however failed to notice that one fact they included about their new recruit was a joke.

The National League outfit confirmed they had signed the 23-year-old in a statement published on the club’s website, saying that Mansell had been voted into the Scottish Championship team of the season… something he didn’t exactly deserve.

The Accrington Stanley forward scored just two goals in 22 games for his former club last term before being released at the end of the season following a underwhelming spell during his time at Firhill.

The SPFL asked supporters to vote for their Championship team of the year on Twitter last summer, the ballot was then hijacked by Partick Thistle fans so they could jokingly get Mansell a place within it.

FC Halifax Town have signed 23 year old striker Lewis Mansell on a month’s loan from Accrington Stanley.

He started his career with Blackburn Rovers and has had loan spells with FC United of Manchester and Partick Thistle before moving to them on a permanent deal north of the border in the summer of 2019 and was voted into the 2019-20 Scottish Championship team of the season.

Mansell joined Accrington in November 2020 and made his debut against Barrow in the EFL Trophy and scored in the game.

He will wear squad number 34.

We wish him well during his time with the Club.

Th gaffer said: Lewis is an exciting young player who has a bright future ahead of him. He will bring strength and energy to our forward line. Again we are putting our trust in youth players and we thank Accrington for trusting us with one of their young talents.

FC Halifax Town currently sit 8th in the National League table under manager Pete Wild who had a cracking FA Cup run with Oldham a few years ago.

The club have so far taken 22 points from 16 games played and just sit a point from the playoff places.

Partick said in their statement releasing the player Lewis Mansell: “Partick Thistle Football Club can confirm that Lewis Mansell has left the club by mutual consent.

“The 23 year old striker arrived at Thistle, originally on loan from Blackburn Rovers, in January 2019 and featured 33 times, netting three times, for the club.

“Lewis leaves with the thanks of everyone at Partick Thistle and with our best wishes for his future in the game.”
