We take a look at the current favourites to become new Brentford manager as Tottenham Hotspur look to appoint Thomas Frank.
Spurs are holding talks with Brentford to appoint Frank as their new head coach following Ange Postecoglou’s sacking, despite his recent Europa League triumph.
Tottenham aim to finalise the deal within 48 hours, with negotiations focusing on a £10m compensation package for Frank and his staff.
Frank, 51, has been Brentford’s manager since 2018, leading them to Premier League promotion in 2021 and establishing them as a stable top-flight club.
Postecoglou, sacked after a poor Premier League season (17th place, 22 losses), led Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years but faced challenges with injuries.
🚨 Tottenham make contact with Brentford as Thomas Frank appointment nears completion. #THFC hope to agree deal in next 48 hours. Terms in place with 51yo Dane. Healthy relations between clubs for talks over £10m release + #BrentfordFC staff @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/Sriks8jSDs

Ben Jacobs (@JacobsBen) tweeted: “Understand Thomas Frank has verbally agreed terms with Spurs. Ongoing discussions over backroom staff.
“Deal subject to Frank’s release clause being triggered, but the Brentford boss expected to replace Ange Postecoglou.
“Thomas Frank has agreed to join Spurs and the parties are now finalising the appointment, as revealed earlier.
“Frank’s release clause is in the region of £10m. Clubs in the process of finalising the deal after Frank both agreed terms and informed Brentford of his desire to leave. Ongoing talks over backroom staff as well.
“Kieran McKenna one name considered by Brentford to replace Frank, but shortlist still being determined.”
Brentford are said to admire Kieran McKenna’s tactical clarity and progressive football philosophy, which align with Brentford’s values of intelligent football and player development.
No final decisions have been made, but McKenna is seen as a strong candidate for the Premier League. Here’s a look at what the bookies are saying…

Henry Winter has given his take, saying: “Thomas Frank would be a smart appointment by #THFC. His teams play good football, balancing defence with menacing attack plus set-pieces. Frank would organise Spurs, have a Plan B if needed and would improve players through his coaching and one-on-one management. Whole new level of scrutiny/pressure/expectation at Spurs to Brentford but he’s determined, thoughtful, pretty ego-free and incredibly likeable. Time in his company is insightful and entertaining. Gets on with staff, players, fans, media.
“But Frank would be leaving a well-run, hassle-free club in #BrentfordFC for a club that can be dysfunctional at times, that has chewed up more established managers (who’ve then go on to do well elsewhere, Conte etc), that has a tension between chairman and supporters.
“Big loss for Brentford if Frank leaves, even if partly softened by chunky compo, but they will doubtless appoint well. Again. Frank has to be tempted. Spurs, for all the obvious flaws, are a big draw. Stadium, training ground, some very good players and young prospects to develop and a large fanbase. Plus dear old Ange got them in the CL. Plus they have a very personable, super bright CEO in Vinai Venkatesham. The type of person you’d want to work with/for. Good luck to Frank if he goes. Genuinely likeable guy and a very good manager.”
Here’s what fans are saying amid the favourites to become new Brentford manager as Tottenham look to appoint Thomas Frank…
@premdebrief: Quite excited to see Frank at a higher level tbh
@nad_THFC: The key thing here is he is bringing his own staff. About time a new manager was allowed to do that.
@KJxMilligan: Good appointment for Spurs will get them stable on the football pitch, big opportunity for Frank! I think Brentford will get McKenna as their new manager, think it would be the perfect move for them!
@ThatRexGuy: Man I feel awful for Brentford supporters – but Frank has built a tremendous foundation and a reputation worthy of getting a very promising manager. So if they get it right on his replacement; it’s very possible for them to reach that next level.
@MattyTJW: Unbelievable appointment from Levy tbf to him. He’s progressive, well organised in and out of possession, elite tactically and definitely has the bollocks to win things. They’ll be a storm with him at the helm, one of the best coaches in Europe
@AshburtonLegacy: Frank is a very good addition to Spurs. One of the top prospects in the PL. And teams like United,Spurs need to be up there so that frauds like Slot don’t get anymore free rides like last season. Let all the top teams compete and may the best one prevail.
@keithcropper1: Best manager they could’ve got unfortunately. He’s perfect for creating a culture around the club and building a sustainable brand of football. We should’ve gone for him after sacking Ten Hag
@AndrewTurmer: Brentford away should be a less nightmarish trip for us now. Can’t remember the last time we played well there. Thomas Frank + Levy will end in disaster too. He won’t last there.
@KAY7COYS: So Thomas Frank. Another bang average manager to go with our bang average squad and back room staff. Fairs can’t wait for next season to finish mid table 🥱🥱
@lazqetjohnson: If you really want to hear an objective opinion about Thomas Frank from those who know him best, listen to Brentford fans. They absolutely adore him. #COYS
@DC_THFC: All but confirmed then. Welcome to the mad house and good luck Thomas Frank. . Excited to see what this new chapter brings. (Again)
@Markafc87: Spurs in talks with Thomas Frank 😂 I mean he’s good but spurs love ruining managers
@Beesotted: We seem to be edging towards the now inevitable departure of Thomas Frank… we can hopefully then move quickly towards the start of an exciting new era at #brentfordFC under a new head coach… yet never forgetting what TF achieved at our club. ❤️ 🇩🇰 🐝
@R_J_M_11: Would be very surprised if Brentford take a punt on McKenna based on what they have seen of him as a premier league manager so far, and with the prospect of losing Mbeumo. Too much of a risk, can’t see it. #itfc
@itfcrg: Yeah man, it’s never been so over. I’ve got a horrible feeling McKenna goes to Brentford.
