Faversham confirm the signing of yet more former Football League players

Ninth tier club Faversham Town confirm the signing of yet more former Football League players, the latest being Billy Bingham.

It’s fair to say the Southern Counties East League Premier Division outfit are excited about this one, calling it a ‘fantastic’ addition in the announcement.

He joins a side that has a number of familiar faces, with the squad managed by Sammy Moore, who had plenty of experience in League Two.

CLUB STATEMENT:

TOWN are delighted to announce the arrival of midfielder Billy Bingham.

Bingham played more than 130 games for Bromley, helping them to the FA Trophy in 21/22 season. Previous clubs include Gillingham, Dagenham and Redbridge, Crewe and Crystal Palace.

He has bags of higher-league experience and will be a great asset to the club.

Gaffer Sammy Moore was delighted and said: “Absolutely over the moon to sign a player of Billy’s calibre and experience, this is a massive coup for our fantastic club! A real top player that has bags of quality.

“The fans will love him with his all-action midfield play. A huge thank you to the chairman (Gary Smart) and the board for their backing, Billy will go straight into the squad for Saturday’s game.”

Bingham said: “Hi everyone, I’m really looking forward to starting a new chapter in my career at Faversham Town.

“I can’t wait to get started and let’s make it a successful season. Thanks for the support I have received and I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday.”

Vice-chairman, Marc Leader, stated: “This signing shows our support for the management and our intent to get back to the Isthmian Leagues and beyond. It’s great to have such an experienced and talented player, like Billy, join the Faversham family.”

We play against Fisher at the Aquatherm on Saturday, 3pm kick-off.

Faversham Town F.C are delighted to announce the signing of Stefan Payne.

After being released by Tonbridge Angels earlier this week, Faversham manager Sammy Moore was quick out the blocks to get Stefan in – no doubt, chairman Gary Smart’s phone was red hot as soon as there was a prospect of getting his signature.

Payne – whose previous clubs include the likes of Dover, Welling, Tranmere Rovers, Shrewsbury, Gillingham and Fulham – will bring bags of experience, mental and physical strength, as well as goals.

Moore said: “Stefan is a real winner and leader, having played against him and watched him at previous clubs.

“He is a real handful and a proven goalscorer (10 goals for Welling last season) at all levels. He will be a fantastic addition to the squad, the management team can’t wait to work with him.

“A huge thank you to the chairman, Gary Smart, for the backing. This is a real coup for this fantastic club!

“I’m sure Stefan will be a fan favourite. I, for one, can’t wait for him to score goals and celebrate with our great fans.

“Come on you Lilywhites!”

Welcome to the club, Stefan.

The news comes with frontman Gary Lockyer having left Faversham.

On social media, he wrote: “Thanks @FavershamTownFC for my short time at the club.

“Time to move on to a new challenge.”

Towns Chairman, Gary Smart said: “Welcome to Faversham Town Football Club, Connor Essam, what a signing this is! One of the best centre halves in non-league and probably one of the best signings in non-league, he has agreed to join Sammy and the boys, from Dartford.

“We have been tracking Connor for the last few months and after meeting him a few weeks ago we can see what a gentleman he is. He’s a family man, and having welcomed the newest addition just a few weeks ago, we all send our congratulations.

“Now we can add Connor to the FTFC family, along with all the great additions we’ve made for the new season. Connor’s signing shows our intent as a football club to push on, not just this season but in the seasons to come.

“I’m sure you will join me in welcoming Connor Essam to the football club. This announcement concludes the new look Faversham Town Football Club squad for 2023-2024 season, and what an amazing squad it is!.

“I’m sure all the Faversham Town Football Club supporters will be excited and expecting good things from the team for the season ahead.
Come on you Lillywhites!”

The Gaffer, Sammy said: “Absolutely delighted to sign Connor Essam! Connor, for me, is one of the best centre backs in non league football. I have been lucky enough to play with him at Leyton Orient and also to manage him at other clubs, so I know what qualities he has.

“He is a outstanding footballer, more importantly, a born leader that Faversham fans should be so excited about!

“This is a HUGE signing for our special club.  This shows our ambition, not for just this season but for many years to come! Massive thank you to the Chairman for getting this deal done.

“When we met Connor, Gary could see what a superb role model he is going to be for our football club! I’m so excited about this signing, as I know lots of clubs have been trying get him, but the relationship we’ve kept over years of playing together, and when managing him, there was only one place he was going call home 🦁⚽️”

“Welcome to the Faversham Family Connor, you will 100% be a huge fans favourite!” – Gaffer

Connor said on signing for Town: “I’m delighted to get it over the line and sign for Faversham. The Chairman and the board (including 100 messages a day from Sammy!), have put in so much effort to get me here and to show me the plans they have for the next few seasons.

“It is something to be very excited about. I decided to leave Dartford mainly due to the travelling and having a young family. With Faversham being such a family orientated club, this move will allow me to play the game I love and still have time with my family. I can’t wait to show the Faversham supporters what I can bring to the team. Upthelilywhites”

Here’s how fans reacted as Faversham confirm the signing of yet more former Football League players…

@PhilRiverman10: What the hell must the wage bill be for a side in the SCEFL. Building a side that would challenge at least 2 leagues above to get out of it. Bit of overkill
