It is alleged that the facilities at the National League club’s SMH Group Stadium could be hired out by the controversial Barlow Hunt group.
As word got about, is soon became a topic of conversation on social media, with the Derby Hunt Saboteurs (@Derby_Sabs) Twitter page writing: “Shame on @ChesterfieldFC for hosting the Barlow Hunt’s Ball.”

Back in 2020, a petition was set up urging for the Casa Hotel in Chesterfield to cancel hosting the Barlow Hunt Ball with Animal rights groups also organising a major demonstration outside the hotel.
A spokesperson for Locals Against the Barlow Hunt said at the time, as per Derbyshire Times: “The Casa is Chesterfield’s most outstanding hotel and the first place you think of for special occasions.
“You would never expect them to support blood sports by hosting a hunt ball in this day and age.
“The Barlow hunt has spent the last 12 months lurching from one PR disaster to the next, we were therefore astonished when the Casa confirmed that it would be hosting the hunt ball again this year.”
A spokesperson for Casa Hotel said there was ‘little to be achieved’ by targeting staff at the venue.
“The hotel hosts many events for a wide range of companies and organisations throughout the year, each representing a wide range of people with differing interests and viewpoints,” he said.
“We understand that the interests of different groups of people will not always align. If it is the case that some people have legitimate concerns about particular events and activities, then they should raise their concerns with the appropriate authorities directly.
“Our focus is always on providing a professional service and an exceptional guest experience whilst supporting the local economy.”
Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins said: “I am fiercely opposed to fox hunting and supportive of the Hunting Act. I am also anxious to meet with police about allegations made about the Barlow Hunt.
“However, Casa Hotel is a major employer of local people and particularly young people, which should not be disadvantaged. I don’t blame any Chesterfield business lawfully providing their services to another business.
“I also support the right of people to protest as long as they do so lawfully.”
It remains to be seen as to what is made of claims that Chesterfield FC are to host the event in 2024.
As mentioned, fans urge Chesterfield to cancel the alleged hosting of the controversial Barlow Fox Hunt Ball…

@KopKarlos: @ChesterfieldFC You disgust me. Shame on you!!!
@JenniGoldsmith: Absolutely appalling, backward decision. Shows how much @ChesterfieldFC care about their fans as over 80% of the public despise foxhunting. I wouldn’t step foot in a place that celebrated these evil thugs & wildlife criminals 😡😡
@neilvparkinson: This is unbelievable. My local team who are so proactive with local charities and organisations hosting this abhorrent group of animal killers. Please reconsider this misguided and incredibly short sighted decision. @tobyperkinsmp is there anything you can do here ?
@silentenygma: Disgraceful @ChesterfieldFC You should look up to the RNLI for proper conduct.
@BlairDunlop: Yeahhhh this isn’t a good look @ChesterfieldFC put it right.
@ColetteMannion: I am very disappointed to read that @ChesterfieldFC would host an event for an established fox hunting group… knowing that they are illegally hunting and killing foxes in the most barbaric manner. This is a PR disaster for the football club and they should cancel ☠️🦊😱

@AbiEngland1998: Is this true @ChesterfieldFC? Are you really hosting people who take pleasure from watching innocent foxes be ripped to pieces?
@NatVanChudleigh: Disgusting by @ChesterfieldFC, hosting the criminal fox hunting ball. It isn’t until the 27th of January, so they still have time to fix their grave error of judgement and cancel the booking. Hosting bloodsports is a really bad look.
@annette_duff: Imagine hosting these sadistic cruel people who enjoy watching animals being ripped to shreds Why would a football team do this????
@mattybarbs: You’re better than this @ChesterfieldFC. Terrible call whoever ok’d this.
