Fans take issue with what Ryan Lowe said on Preston’s defeat to Sheffield United

Fans on social media take issue with what Ryan Lowe said on Preston’s defeat to Sheffield United in Friday’s Championship opener.

North End were beaten 2-0 as the Blades returned to the second tier after a woeful season in the Premier League.

It was a comfortable victory for Chris Wilder’s side, with academy star Ollie Arblaster making it 1-0 with a 12th minute deflected effort before Hamer took advantage of a howler from Freddie Woodman to add a second in the 55th minute.

Preston: Woodman, Whiteman, Whatmough, Lindsay, Keane (Osmajic 65), Riis, Brady (Best 87), Hughes, Greenwood (Kesler-Hayden 65) Thordarson (Frokjaer 72), Potts.

Unused: Cornell, Storey, Ledson, Holmes, Mawene.

Blades: Davies, Gilchrist (Seriki 72), Arblaster, Hamer (Slimane 72), Moore, O’Hare (Peck 90), Burrows, Ahmedhodžić, Robinson, Souza, Brooks (Brewster 79).

Unused: Grbic, Trusty, Souttar, Coulibaly, Marsh.

Speaking after the game, Ryan said: “I thought we started well. I thought there were some good moments in the game and we were well in the game before it ricochets and gets a deflection and bounces in.

“Obviously we’re disappointed by that and in the build-up to it we gave the ball away with a stray pass and we get caught. Before that, I thought we were well in the game. We started brightly and after that we got a foothold again and had a little bit more. We were getting balls down the sides and supporting the play.

“Second half, we started like a house on fire and came out of the blocks really fast. I thought we did well with that and then to concede a goal the way we did [was disappointing].

“Fred’s made a judgement to throw it. I thought his contribution before that was excellent, his kicking was top drawer, his decision-making was excellent. I think he got a little bit hurried because we came out the blocks in the second half and the place sort of erupted and wanted us to do things quickly.

“He’s made a judgement to throw it so he’s disappointed in that but there’s no criticism from us.”

Asked what specifically he was happy with, Ryan said: “They passed their way out from the back, they worked their way up the pitch, we had a lot more possession.

“I want the boys getting up the pitch higher. We passed the ball forwards a lot more but could have been a bit more.

“We need to play forward more. We’ve got to have options, we’ve got to have runs. Late on we put two strikers on and they’ve got to make runs down the side, and when we’ve got two eights you can see Pottsy [Brad Potts] driving inside and Kaine [Kesler-Hayden] coming on, I thought he was excellent when he came on the pitch.

“We’ve obviously got to do more to win games of football, we know that. But we’re up against an outfit who have just come down from the Premier League and most of them lads have played in that division.

“We’re disappointed overall. I thought there were some good moments in the game which we’ll have a look at and analyse, and we can just keep getting better. That’s going to be our message.”

Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder: “We weren’t as sharp as we could be. Fortunate to go ahead and we knew there would be a reaction.

“The second goal changed the dynamics of the game. I will demand a lot of my players and Gus [Hamer] redeemed himself with that incredible finish. We were comfortable after that.

“He saw the ‘keeper off his line, and it was a fabulous finish. Delighted with how we managed the game after that. Two-nil we will take every day and we didn’t really give up any opportunities.

“When we had to defend our box, we did. It wasn’t always one way traffic. Nice to win a game of football for a change!

“Good energy, good character. When we had to suffer, there was good personality. Enjoy wearing the shirt, you have incredible support behind you. They showed it today, you have to enjoy your football.

“No motivation was needed. Playing in one of the best leagues in Europe and we want to get back to what we do, which is being a good football club.”

As mentioned, fans take issue with what Ryan Lowe said on Preston’s defeat to Sheffield United…

@CarolineMcKevit: Not even putting the sound on.

@pne_jamie: We NEVER looked like creating an opportunity to score Ryan. Answer that

@pnefctom17: Sheffield were way, way better in all departments. We were poor. Be honest Ryan

@simo7pne: Fantastic and give it a right good go are absolutely not what I expected to hear after this game. Wow.

@CjCritch: Very concerning when your manager comes out with comments like he’s literally watched a different game to many of the fans. We’re all ‘managers’, all have an opinion but… from the min the 2nd goal went in (55mins), we did not have a good go. In fact, we looked lost.

@shk820740341: He says they are fantastic every game 😑

@bondini123: Please carry out an intervention. Enough is enough. 6 straight defeats and no goals in 8. Act now while there is still time.

@acrpne: ‘Fantastic’ 🥴… Someone make it stop

@MrRobertBage: Is this supposed to be satire? #pnefc

@RobertBell1993: #LoweOut, time for a change I’m afraid, nothing has changed from last season should’ve got rid when the season ended, how much longer do we have to endure this turgid football.

@dougie_fresh: The level of delusion is very concerning.

@DaveHogg2: New fancy floodlights, new fancy turnstile card readers, Same old tactics, same old performance and same rubbish from Lowe in his after game interview. TIME FOR CHANGE.

@JoeyO94: Deluded, get him gone

@cafucaffrey1977: We gave it a real go 😂😂😂

@ChrisCarter90: There’s deluded.. then there’s this. ENOUGH!

@tomelfc: Good stuff ? When ? Smacking balls over top hoping for the best to centre forward is literally Sunday league stuff.

@BabyOilMatt: Please someone ask him if hes being serious. We’re 1-0 down and he’s sat there doing fuck all. Wilder is up organising his team wanting more. He is clueless. I don’t need coaching badges to know that passing it around the back then booting it up the line to no one is shite tactic

@liambutterwor11: What about the mistake of 4 players pressing one player for the first goal, thankfully be gone soon

@a_daggers11: Oh fuck off Ryan get out of our club

@dom_33: Please put him out of his misery north end

@IanBradley2: Gaffer? Your having a laugh 😂 get him gone

@AliWallace7: Is he that deluded

@_Phil_Collins: Bore off cheerleader. Your time is up.

@iffypete: What the fuck is he on…
