Fans took to slam referee David Webb after handing Connor Roberts a red card for handball but the ball actually hit the crossbar.
Manuel Benson scored twice for Burnley as they came from behind to defeat Middlesbrough at Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
For Vincent Kompany’s Clarets, this victory is more important than the fact that they are now 10 points ahead of third in the promotion push.

After taking a surprise lead in the 49th, Boro lost, with the result ending Michael Carrick’s four-game winning streak.
Clarets winger Benson tried to keep the ball in play at half time but failed to hook it back towards his goal. With the Burnley defence squared, Duncan Watmore ran clear to score the goal.
Belgium Under-21 winger Benson made amends for his mistake with two goals in seven minute to give the Clarets a lead.
He was able to cut in Boro left back Ryan Giles and fire in a left footed shot that beat Zack Steffen at the near post.

Benson’s second goal, and seventh of the year, was even more embarrassing for the USA international keeper. He drifted in an offside cross from the right.
Steffen was distracted by two Burnley players attacking his ball. He stayed rooted on the spot while the ball bounced off the far post.
Burnley maintained their unbeaten home record when Josh Brownhill curled a corner towards the near post where it glanced in from the head of Boro midfielder JonnyHowson for an own goal.
Boro appeared to be saved in the 90th minute, when Connor Roberts was adjudged guilty of handling on the goal-line after Chuba Akpom’s header sailed off the bar.
This earned the Wales international a yellow card and gave the visitors an automatic penalty. However, Akpom’s spot kick was saved by Muric who dived low to his left.

As mentioned, fans slam the referee after handing Connor Roberts a red card for handball but the ball actually hit the crossbar…
@joshmontage656: Serious review needed on efl refs, league one refs were shocking but Christ the championship is even worse
@holinwanderlust: No wonder he was raging and refusing to go off.
@Shaunelious: It’ll get overturned anyway and didn’t impact the result but lets not pretend he didn’t try to handle it. From far away it looks like he has handled it. Merson thought he had. No VAR in this league so it’s not a terrible decision just a human error
@amywiseman22: Utterly appalling. The officials have to be more accountable and explain these decisions.
@KevLongSZN: Championship refs are just brilliant aren’t they? This has to get rescinded.
@Zoot_Sax: One of the worst refereeing performances I’ve ever seen at Turf Moor, thankfully a 3-1 win. How Connor Roberts got sent off for handball when the ball actually hit the bar I’ll never know #twitterclarets
@BpBoman: Never touched it. #JusticeForRoberts
@campbellclaret: And the winner of the most ridiculous red card award … Connor Roberts … ball hits the bar, he gets red card for deliberately handling a ball he never touched. Weird. Justice that the pen was saved. Great turnaround. Great win. #utc
@JoeWalt78470830: Love Connor Roberts but as a Swansea fan this is only the second worst penalty for handball involving Burnley in recent times.
@TerryHobkirk: How do referee’s get worse and worse as the years go by? No matter what league they’re all just awful
@John_GR63: Needs to be serious conversation on EFL refs especially in league 2 it’s disgraceful
@madcelt61: Another bunch of cheating officials
@CallumJ_1927: The absolute state of this
@swansnews: What a dreadful decision
@JoshiiF1: I mean I’ve been complaining about championship refs for a while but this takes the cake
@KieranCraig2016: Welcome back EFL refs you magical shitshow
@juskeeprunnin: b-b-but opposition fans say that the refs prefer us 🥺🥺🥺 #twitterclarets
@joey__burton__: I’ll never understand why they put all these cameras in the grounds and then don’t use them to help referees. After all, it’s not like we have a tried & tested video referee system these days, is it…? Some atrocious decisions today that could only be helped with VAR.
@Chipstead_Gas: EFL officials a shining light to the national game once again
@CallandPaul: A mistake like this should just never happen! To give a penalty and send somebody off you MUST be sure you saw it, and it’s impossible they saw him handle the ball because he simply didn’t 🤬
@AlfieWhalley: Meant to be professionals these refs , we got lucky aswelll cause they should’ve had a pen at 1-0.
I’ve been certainly trying to shag Scarlett Johansson for years mate, doesn’t mean I’ve done it
