Fans react after owner Kevin Nagle issues a statement on Huddersfield’s 4-1 defeat to Mansfield at the weekend.
A humiliating defeat for the Terriers’ final home game of the 2025/26 season, Huddersfield assistant coach Jon Stead saying he “didn’t expect” his players to succumb to a committed Mansfield side so easily.
The result sees Mansfield end Huddersfield’s unbeaten home league run at 15 games, the Stags 11th in League One, with 61 points from 44 games played, Huddersfield are 9th with 64 points from 45 games played.
I don’t need to tell any of you, our supporters, that today was absolutely unacceptable…..as we near the end of a season that was incredibly disappointing.
Though I have been advised to wait until after our final match to say this publicly, I’m not big on being “handled”………

Kevin Nagle (@KevinNagleMLS) tweeted: “I don’t need to tell any of you, our supporters, that today was absolutely unacceptable… as we near the end of a season that was incredibly disappointing.
“Though I have been advised to wait until after our final match to say this publicly, I’m not big on being “handled”……
“I am the Chairman and the blame lies with me ultimately, and I don’t want to wait another second to let you know how disappointed I am.
“I am not interested in the blame game.
“Blame me.
“That’s fine, I’m the one in the big chair.
“We have secured the stadium.
“We have re-invigorated our Academy at great cost, so that we may reap the benefits in our future.
“We just watched our Town Women play the type of football and achieve the type of success I wish our Men’s team emulated.
“But wishing vs reality are two different things.
He continued: “So here it is:
“No more flashy promises.
“After this statement, no more flashy words.
“We, starting with myself, David Threlfall-Sykes, and our staff, will work day and night this offseason to get it right.
“In 3 years, I’ve come to know the football you want to see.
“And it’s the same football I want to see.
“Big, physical, front footed, aggressive, and able to hold leads late in the match.
“But MOST IMPORTANTLY, players that play for the badge on the FRONT, not the name on the back.
“I have, as you know, spent a ton of money on players the last 3 years, that isn’t the issue.
“But going forward:
“We will be smart. We will be tactical.
“We will bring players in to fit our system, not move the system to fit our players.
“There is nothing I can say to you at this point, no magic wand I can wave to make it right. At this point, actions and RESULTS are all that matter.
“There are some both within and outside this organization that will be rubbed the wrong way by this statement, and frankly I don’t care.
“My responsibility is to YOU, the supporter, to ensure we have done all we can do make your trip home from the Accu Stadium on matchday a pleasant and satisfying journey.
“I will be watching, (as will our front office team), next weekend’s match very carefully.
“We will see who is playing for the shirt…..and who is ready to go on vacation.
“Thank you, and as always your continued support means everything.
“We will get there, or we will die trying. UTT. Kevin”

Huddersfield’s Jon Stead told the club’s media: “Ultimately, it was a shock. It was a shock because of what we have seen during the week. The preparation was clear, as it has been. We were expecting another performance in the same vein, which has been decent.
“We’ve obviously looked at things around game management, and how we can nullify the threats late in game, and how we can stop some of those moments. The opposition were exactly as we expected, the game was about second balls, it was about running harder than them, and it was about competing and doing all the things you need to do to get the game on your terms, and then the quality should be there.
“We never got there with it, and we never started. When you don’t do that and then you concede again, it’s another sucker punch and then the capability to pull yourselves back around probably wasn’t quite there with everybody.”
Fans react after owner Kevin Nagle issues a statement after Huddersfield’s 4-1 defeat to Mansfield…
@VitalHtafc: Fair play Kev can’t fault what you’ve put in an done, badly let down across the board I have faith ultimately you will find the winning recipe!
@DanPage41632238: DTS. Out. You’ve been fleeced Kevin. Nice guy with good intentions but you’ve been had. Get someone who knows football in this league. Truly appalling effort on the pitch all season and woeful transfer policy. Amateurish all round
@_Terrier_Jack:
2024: “We will get it right next season”
2025: “We will get it right next season”
2026: “We will get it right next season”
@Lambypie_: We lost 4-1 at home today. I renewed my season card tonight! 🤦♂️ Always living in hope that next season will be different.
@theterriersfan: Respect this. Some people wont be happy no matter what. As many people have, I’ve travelled up and down the country following Town, spending lots of money. And, once again, its been a huge failure and disappointment. The last few games I’ve seen genuine fight and emotion from players. Such as Ryan Ledson, Murray Wallace etc. Some, not so much. And today, those could be picked out. This pre season, and next season will define you and Huddersfield Town. Were all with you. But, you HAVE to get this right. Up The Town. #htafc
@Inmanry: Strong statement this. I do believe Kev will get it right eventually. He’s clearly had the wrong people leading the club behind the scenes. Hopefully some big changes coming over the next few weeks. UTT! #htafc
@TownterrierFM: Only one man understands the football side for advising and is the one who was in place for our premier league promotion, @SeanMJarvis just ask dean hoyle. Shame we cant get a manager like david wagner that got us there. Atm football has gone from my hobby, its boring bk passing
@_htfcharry_: Not all your fault Kev. You’ve been let down by certain people as well
@TheTwatOfHTAFC: You wanna get to where we want to be? Sack the staff who have let you down at the club instead of keeping them employed. Maybury has been head of recruitment since your tenure begun, get rid. Markham isnt anywhere near up to it, get rid. These parasites leech off you and my club
@superterrier: For all those complaining and abusing Kev one question how many other chairmen would have the balls to tower this
@rsole1212: Kevin, although it’s a similar statement to last season, fair play for coming out, yeah the buck does stop with you, the staff you hired simply aren’t good enough, start by talking to Sean Jarvis, he was very successful at town and has the club at heart. Knows the club
@earnshaw: You can’t ask for more than that. Anyone giving Kevin sh*t needs to give their head a shake. I believe he is good hearted regarding our team.
@doodlejp: Warnock sacked. Moore hired. Duff sacked. Grant hired. Cartwright kept in job. Edwards kept in job. Taylor loaned out. How many more mistakes are you not going to own?
And in those 3 years Kev it’s been nothing but shit…. Remember these? Are you going to be saying this in another few seasons? pic.twitter.com/HOjwM2Ftdx

Bang on with the players. Any player that has given their all for Town is always highly regarded, even players moving onto other teams. We will always remember the name on the back when they play for the badge on the front! Dead rubber game today and one team was up for it. pic.twitter.com/YjpWFSCmhX
